Loved this park! Great trails for walking, hiking, and biking! Many things to see and explore like old building ruins, the waterfront all around the island, and graffiti art.

The island its self is great. I grew up near it, and explored it as a child. I don't care for the "improvements" nor the adaptation into a park. I would much rather it be left to nature, open to exploration and use by the public that the historical and natural plant growth / ecology bot be altered. Also, as a "park" it closes at 10pm which outlaws night fishing and camping. To sum it up, nice island but thumbs down to modernization and developments.

Many memories of this mysterious place throughout my life and it's great to see how well the community has kept pushing for its success. At one point it wasn't the best for fishing or nature walks to even running around the island and for the advanced trails bring your mountain bike and shoes tied tight because Sylvan Island has much to offer along with so much history to learn or teach if the little ones are with for the days adventure. This day I tried to see how many types of mushroom i could spot on this little island having found a half dozen easily in the short trip going around the island only once before I snagged a flat on the bike from the shale rock on the northwest side of the island so beware.
Restrooms: Yep right before you go over bridge the parking lot has a restroom along with drinking fountain.
Dog-friendliness: Yep I see folks with dog all the time.
Picnic area: Plenty of spots and places with nice views of R.I.A. and the back of Arsenal Slough. The piers stretching over water I always chose for relaxing and fishing!
