I own a nineteenth century frame farmhouse in Lasalle County that has been in my family since about 1898. It had been badly in need of updating to bring it to modern standards of comfort. I had architectural renderings created that involved demolishing about half of the house and replacing that space with an addition with a footprint about one third larger than that which was demolished. The demolished section contained two bedrooms on the upper level. The replacement addition of about 900 square feet was to be a single story containing a kitchen, bathroom and great room, all under a lofted cathedral ceiling. The completed house would be reduced to three bedrooms from five.
After months of searching for a contractor for the job, with little success, I inquired of our long time HVAC company for a recommendation. As a result, I was very fortunate to connect with Dean Tieman of Tieman Builders in Lasalle. I could not have been more pleased with the outcome of this association. The final product came out even better than my most optimistic vision of what I had hoped for as an outcome. It has been nearly a year since completion of the project and I havent found a single reason to necessitate a callback to correct a deficiency. Any issues that warranted attention during construction were dealt with efficiently and in a timely fashion.
Ours was not a case, as I have heard from others, of the builder securing the contract and then disappearing to other jobs only to be seen on and off again at their convenience. Demolition was completed in a half day and the new foundation was in the following day. The structure was framed and under roof within the first two months. If something wasnt done to expectations it was quickly rectified. During the course of construction numerous suggestions were made by the builder which greatly improved the outcome.
Tiemans crew was on the site to work. They worked efficiently, worked well together and were very courteous and respectful of our property. I couldnt have been more pleased with their work ethic. From the beginning, Dean Tieman assured me that his numbers were good. I would have just assumed that there would be overages. Except for some minor additions initiated by me, he did, in fact, complete the job for the price he quoted. The integrity with which he approached his craft was refreshing.
All in all, this was a very pleasant and rewarding experience with the outcome exceeding all my expectations. I would highly recommend Tieman Builders to anyone considering a building project and I would look forward to working with them again should the need arise.
