Tom Makinney sold my wife and I our first home in Lombard, a 2bed/2bath 1500 sqft georgian. It was a motivated seller who had listed the home at one point at 409k. We negotiated down and I purchased the home at 257k. SCORE! After living in the home for only 6 years, and with moderate improvements over that time period, we listed our home and it went under contract in 4 days. We sold for 300k and turned a little profit. SCORE AGAIN! Anyways, Tom was totally professional and communicated every step of the way. Tom has years of experience and while everyone has their 'guy' or 'gal' in the real estate game, if you are buying or selling for the first time, I would highly recommend; my wife and I had the BEST experience.

***WARNING*** I listed our home with Maria Gracik of @Properties on the recommendation of a local builder. She took the listing and sat on it. After signing the listing agreement, I could never get in contact with her. All communication was through staff. She did nothing to market the house beyond posting it in the MLS. She tied the property up with a six-month listing agreement and did nothing. My wifes job situation changed, and her national relocation experts advised us that seller's should NEVER sign a listing agreement for a period longer than four-months. At the end of the listing agreement, I notified her office that I was terminating the listing and that I wanted the MLS Listing removed, the sign and lockbox removed from my home. For about a week, this was ignored until I became very demanding to her staff. At that time, Gracik graced me with an email and a call in which, she tried to extort a cancellation fee. I told her that the listing was and had been expired. I told her that if she blocked my ability to relist with another agent for even a single day longer, my next call would be to the State Department of Real Estate. She finally removed the MLS listing. She did not remove the sign or lockbox. I removed the sign and it was over a week before it was picked up and the lockbox was removed. I have the documentation verifying every statement that I have made. My only contact with Tom was to see his signature on the Listing Agreement and an email and phone call to him when Maria would not respond to phone calls. Maria Gracik and her staff were incompetent and mishandled my transaction from the beginning through her termination. I would strongly advise anyone to avoid her and her group. The house was sold by another listing agent and grocompny. Grasik's inaction caused me to missed out on the peak selling season. I have waited several months since the house sold to before posting a review. I still feel as wronged now as the day that I fired her and her group. Similar to another reviewer post, I have purchased and sold many homes before and I have never ever experienced such a lack of communication, unresponsiveness or concern from a realtor and/or brokerage firm in my life. I was truly negatively blown away. I hope this review saves someone from the awful experience.
