Trader Joe's is the best to buy fresh produce, great wines, and cheeses at reasonable prices compared to Whole Foods or Mariannos, especially during holidays. However, they could do better in coffee; no one of their coffees has the same taste and quality as Pete's coffee. Same for the teas. Their bread and tortillas are mediocre, especially corn tortillas. Ice cream can not be compared with Haggen Dazs or Ben and Jerry's. Meat is OK. I wish they had their butcher and stopped using plastics. I haven't found a good cereal, either. Frozen foods are targeted at Americans, which means have no taste. Even Mexican foods like enchiladas, salsas, or tamales are for gringos. Trader Joe's service surpasses all supermarkets in Chicago. Never long lines like Mariannos or Jewel, and customers can return anything in seconds at the same cash register where they purchase your groceries. My wish is that Trader Joe's makes an effort to become more sustainable. It still sells plastic bottles and doesn't have purified water dispenses like Whole Foods. Also, it imports water from New Zealand, increasing its carbon footprint. Also, all the broths are liquid not power which creates more weight in transportation.
