I came to Lori after years of struggle with singing. Despite previously working with an excellent voice teacher who also referred me to an otolaryngologist, SLP, and singing expert, I saw little progress and had much confusion over why. Then, in October 2021, my head voice suddenly destabilizedI couldnt hold a pitch without it flying all over the place. A renowned otolaryngologist diagnosed me with an idiopathic form of spasmodic dysphonia (SD) that was specific to singing. It was clear that I needed a specialist. Enter Lori. I worked with Lori for ~20 months, and we saw phenomenal progress. Over the months, we stabilized my head voice, established a reliable mix, found more vocal freedom, and even increased my vocal range by 6-7 semitones. Lori was so sharp, quickly identifying what exercise(s) played nicest with my voice and carefully expanding to other exercises untilvoil! I suddenly had a functional instrument. She was also very encouraging and emotionally intelligent, coaching me through the psychological troubles of having SD. The impact Lori has had on my voice and my relationship with it cant be overstated. I finally have a love for my instrument, and singing feels greater than ever before. Even the otolaryngologist who diagnosed me with SD was shocked at the change in my voice. Usually SD is very crippling and can even end careers. Im so pleased to walk away from my time with Lori knowing that it wont be impacting mine.

I lost a significant portion of my vocal range when I suffered a severe respiratory infection several years ago. I went to doctors, voice teachers, and speech therapists, but no one was able to effect any appreciable improvement to my singing voice. When I started working with Lori, I immediately noticed the difference in her approach --- she's an experienced singer, and the vocal exercises she gave me were not only comfortable and painless, but started opening up my voice right away. I've worked with her for several months now, and not only is my range slowly starting to improve, but a fuller, more melodious quality is returning to my voice. I couldn't be happier or more grateful.

I highly recommend working with Lori! I came to her after seeing multiple ENTs/speech paths who had been unable to help me with the vocal pain and fatigue I was experiencing with speech and singing. There were so many evenings I went home after work unable to talk with my family because my voice just hurt so badly. At my first session, Lori assured me that she could help me and that I was in good hands--boy, was she right! She has helped me immensely to find confidence in my voice again and sing without pain. I am so thankful to have found her!

In the last few months, I have had the pleasure of working with Dr. Lori Sonnenberg after dealing with some post COVID complications. As an artist working at a very high level, having a team you can rely on and trust is essential. It is humbling to lose your mentor in the same year as your have to deal with emotional and medical complications but, to find Dr. Sonnenberg was a gift to my team. She is kind, generous and listens to you as you process all the related issues that pop up as you work on your vocal efficiency. Let it be known that you are not alone and nor do you have to stay that way. I have also sent many of my students to Dr. Sonnenberg. Always good to have outside ears who not only know singers (because she is one) she also knows the medical science behind what's happening.

My 17 year old son began struggling with severe pain while singing. This was devastating to him, as singing is such a huge part of his life, both through school and outside of school. I took him to a couple different doctors without improvement. Finally, an ENT specializing in voice issues diagnosed him with muscle tension dysphonia, and recommended he make an appointment with Lori. It is no exaggeration to say that working with her was completely life changing. I was a bit skeptical because they would be meeting over zoom, but we were getting desperate. Lori is so warm and encouraging and made him feel so relaxed and comfortable. They met every second week over the course of a few months, and his vocal pain completely resolved under her care. She taught him so many new techniques to help him both now and to draw from going forward. He was also amazed at how she was able to help him understand and implement some techniques that his other teacher and choir director had tried to teach him, but he had struggled to put into practice. He is now singing a couple hours daily with multiple groups and doing so in comfort. Lori is extremely gifted, and were very grateful to have found her. She also employs a wonderful staff, very responsive and extremely organized. Overall excellent experience.
