I was contacted by a recruiter through LinkedIn. After going through a phone screen, I was selected for an interview by phone. The interviewer forgot about the interview and apologized when he called late. I'm like "OK, no problem" because I'm a flexible kind of guy, and accommodated him. We did the interview. It went well. We quickly built rapport, and by the end of the half hour phone interview, the interviewer was excited and was enthusiastically going to recommend me to the second stage of the interview process. Then came the bombshell, which shows why they are a bad company. The recruiter e-mailed me telling me that they rejected me for being "overqualified" (whatever that means). My experience was not a problem with the interviewer, he was very enthusiastic about it. The recruiter didn't have a problem with it. Salary was not an issue (otherwise I would have gotten the first stage). So I concluded that someone inside the Lyons organization made the decision without ever talking to me.In addition, when I replied to the rejection asking for information, the recruiter did not say anything and disconnected from LinkedIn. Very suspicious. Poor communication is a sign of a bad company. So, from this experience I have concluded the following:* The job I was interviewing for, was obviously a dead-end job. Their careers site promise that they provide training and development. Clearly that was not going to happen had I gotten this role. There was no way this job would be an improvement in my career. * They use stereotypes for judging candidates. The o-word (overqualified) has many false stereotypes, and I refuted them on articles I wrote on LinkedIn. Whichever stereotype they used, they will not admit to, since I never got a reply.* Contrary to what their website says, they do not want experienced people. * Contrary to what their website says, they do not value their candidates.* Contrary to what their website says, they do not want top talent. Their words are hard to hear, because their actions scream louder.I am a passive candidate and don't need a job at the moment since I already have one. But my review is posted as a warning for job seekers to avoid them. I don't want others to have their time wasted by them. Go and find the better employers, there are plenty of good ones out there. If this is how they treat passive candidates, how badly will they treat the active candidates? If this is the way they treat candidates, how badly will they treat their employees? I clearly dodged a bullet here and am glad I did not make a switch. I would not want to work for a company that behaves this badly.
