Your Easter basket was just adorable and everything I've tasted thus far (with the permission of my 4 year old lol) has been absolutely delicious. A Mona's Easter basket will definitely be a new tradition!

What a wonderful place. The owners and staff are extremely kind and hospitable. The sweets are delicious! I would recommend MSS to everyone. Im looking forward to returning very soon. God bless you.

Great looking but...we did not love it and our guest were in agreement. Thin layer of frosting big pieces of cakes, both so, so, nothing spectacular. We asked for some strawberries or bananas in a cake, we were told that this combination is not recommended (?). Settled on strawberries only, never got it... for $ 110 I would expect better. Looks can't make up for taste.

.You know you've made it when you have a few bad apples (pun intended) leaving bad reviews :)  After watching Mona Slave for hours and sometimes days to make the impossible, possible with a very few unreasonable clients, I Love the grace she handles it with. She kills them with kindness and tries to do exactly what they want and go above and beyond but some will change their orders multiple times, that it's impossible to keep up, or will ask us to do a particular theme but not give any direction and say " just use your best judgement" then show up acting disappointed and asking for a discount,  as if they want her to fail, so they can YELP and ask for a refund, even after they devoured the cake or sweets. After my 35 years in the restaurant/hospitality industry in Downtown Chicago and Mona having over 20+ years with 15 of those years being a cake and dessert artist and with her family with their banquet halls and catering companies, we took the best of both our families and presented it to you, at Mona's Sweet Spot. She dreamed up this idea, that has now sprouted into the best and only Cake and Dessert Studios on the Northside of Chicago! We are unique, we don't make grocery store cakes here, we are not your average bakery, like some are used to, we bring Cake and Dessert Art to life and Mona lives for the challenge of the more unique the better, she Loves the challenge and gets inspired by those types of designs, not your everyday Vanilla ( pun intended again) cakes. We are not new to this and we've seen and heard it all. We do our best but some people just don't care about kindness to others and just maybe had a bad day or life and just want to be mean, after the last few years of this pandemic, we truly saw some very inugly personalities come out, but on a positive note, we saw some of the BEST in humanity as well, so we just smile and do whatever we can for those who allow us too, for our community, families who rely on us and those entrusted to us at the shop. So I've used Mona's Sweet Shop twice now and the first time I didn't leave a review because I wanted to try again as for the most part, I was happy. I'm happy with the quality of the food.Now to the bad and VERY bad. Both times I have done custom orders, they have not been ready when I needed or asked for. She also completely missed I ordered cupcakes and a smash cake. I am not sure if she doesn't write things down or doesn't look back on emails?? The first tome ordered, she was running behind and I sat there waiting for over a half hour.This time, was a complete disaster. I asked if I would be able to pick up on a specific date (which happened to be a Sunday) and was told "no problem." I even confirmed again after discussing the order- after reminding her that I ordered cupcakes too. Then the Saturday morning before, I get an email asking when I was coming in that day to get my order. As you can imagine, I was confused and reminded Mona, with my original email and her reply, that she said Sunday was fine. But then she told me that they were closed Sundays so "sorry" but I need to pick it up that day. I was extremely annoyed. Then as I said, I get another email a half hour before we were supposed to pick up that she was running late. My husband gets there THEN SHE'S STILL NOT READY FOR THE TIME SHE TOLD US! She says she has to drop it all off at our house between 7/7:30 but didn't show up until 9pm. But the absolute worst part is I asked for extremely minimal food coloring on the cake, with just a tiny bit of blue at the top. The ENTIRE cake was bright blue. I was in tears, stupid to cry over a smash cake, but here we are. She offered to remake it and said I could pick it up the next morning (the original day I wanted to pick up remember but was told no) but at that point I just wanted to end contact with her so I said bring the blue cake. I cannot and will not support Mona's sweet shop again and can't recommend it to others.Trust me, it is just not worth the stress or aggravation.
