The Spa at JW Marriott Chicago

This was our first time using this service and had no expectations. Everything was nice until we were sitting at the front desk afterward. We were staying in the hotel and left our wallets upstairs but purchased our services online. The lady required us to verify the last four digits of the credit card used. I had to go upstairs and back down to let her know. She also explained that the $93 service charge on a $375 bill is gratuity. A whole day later, this does not sit right. Not only is gratuity supposed to be an extra gift, but no where in their pricing does it explain that we pay a required service charge. Whats it for? How do we even know that the staff gets it? For that shady business, I believe 2 stars is appropriate. Update** Upon further review, I read the fine print online which refers to a non-discretionary 25% service fee. If I would have seen this hidden fee, we probably wouldnt have even booked here. Seems really scammy and greedy.

Booked the couple's Luxe experience as a surprise for my SO's birthday. We had a fantastic time! The spa attendants and masseuses were wonderful and my SO loved the experience. If you book a service here you get access to all the spa facilities and the gym which is an added perk. We would come back here again.

Booked 80 minute deep tissue couples massage. Therapists decided to take it easy providing moderate pressure and wasting time with a 20 minute scalp massage that was annoying. Why offer and charge for a deep tissue when you are providing a Swedish 60 minute with a 20 minute relax time out session for the therapist. Spa attendants were excellent. Deep clean the hot tub! Waste of time and money!
