Dont move here!! The owner of this building does not care about the state of this building. And we also had no heat for weeks when it was -20F and they said we would be given $120 credit for purchasing heaters for our apartments and then a couple of weeks later, they said we were going to be given a on month credit to our account, however, they took the $120 out of the one month rent?!!?? Absolutely ridiculous. It takes a lot for me to get responses from the leasing office to get anything on my account fixed and corrected. I am STILL waiting for a response from them concerning my credit, and I reached out to corporate for help and still no answer nor acknowledgement. The elevators get stuck and trap people sometimes and I have been stuck in it once for 30 minutes, and not even any action to actually fix the elevators. The front door is broken most of the time, either slammed or it doesnt close or sometimes its just blocked off. It has not been fixed weeks/months at a time. When I submit maintenance requests, sure a couple of days is giving grace since there are multiple people in the building but it can take more than a week to actually fix anything. For instance, the hook on my back door is now on its 3rd request to be fixed since it keeps falling off. They fix it with paste!! I couldve done that. Ive lived in apartment buildings with more tenants and have had a more timely response than this building. Also we used to have a system (Butterly MX, I believe?) to allow visitors to come in the building, which is convenient because the concierge is not 24/7 nor in the lobby all the time. But it seems they dont want to pay for it anymore so it hasnt worked in probably the last year or so. Theres no insulation in my apartment which caused smoke from the wildfires to affect me and my dog and when we had icicles, then water entered my windows and caused water damage. Ive lived in older buildings and never had any of these issues that this place has. They also started to call tenants in April 2024 on the day before the final day of the grace period for rent to ask if Im going to pay it?!? In my 15 years paying rent and living in 9 rental buildings in NC, DC and here, I have always had a 5 day grace period and never once have I gotten a call or email about about-to-be late rent and I have definitely paid on the 5th grace period day due to timing of paychecks. I cannot wait for my lease to end here. The only good thing about this place is Shanita, a lovely concierge person Ive ever met. This place needs new management and ownership. Its way too much money for the very poor quality of this place. Update to respond to comment: the water damage credit was given before the one month credit and since you finally sent an email today to send to IT, that is a little over a month to add to my account and I did have to reach out 3 times in a week (with no responses) and 1 to corporate (who did respond). I also sent an email at the beginning of February (9th and followed up on the 19th) and to the 2/19 email, I was told that I still had to owe what was given as credit! And was never given a response to explain how they did the math on the credit because it did not make any sense. So it was still not fixed. Now today, I was told they sent it to IT to add to my account. (Ill check in a couple of days if it was). That is still pulling teeth to get something that needs to be done. Also, the stay at a hotel was only covered for 3 nights and we had freezing apartments for at least 2 weeks and taking back $120 credit for us to get heaters is so slimy and greedy but I guess that does set this place apart. Good riddance.

This property manager has violated municipal codes by not providing heat in January (when the temperature was below zero). This was not a problem under the previous property manager. I can only assume that any positive reviews of Kevin Romero are from himself or his mother, because he is utterly incompetent. Live here if you want to be charged more rent than surrounding properties and have basic necessities such as heat or water shut off without warning. Everyone I know who lives here has had to move (myself included). Positives include a beautiful rooftop that you will want to jump off of when your faucet doesn't work.

An Amazing Property Manager, Kevin Romero Our building has experienced a very rough January and February. The heat in our building, after years of neglect finally gave out. The owners of 860 N. DeWitt Place should be very proud of how their employee Kevin Romero managed a very difficult situationabove and beyond what was requiredKevin Romero was there with updates and space heaters and sympathy .and just plain good will. It was hard on us, the tenants but Kevin handled everything with grace and encouragement.that things will get better.and they did eventually. But if it wasnt for Kevin, his calm professionalism and human compassion helped us all move forward. Thanks Kevin for making a great building even greater.

Look elsewhere. This building is very poorly maintained and corporate management is negligent. There's a good chance you'll have to relocate at some point due to a water leak or heating issue. On-site staff do the best they can with the resources they're given. It's an unsafe working environment for them as well. CCA is a poorly run business. You don't need to take my word for it - read about the complaints with the BBB, Reddit threads, apartmentratings, Glassdoor, etc.

This building is old, which is historically common for this neighborhood. While this building (mainly due to being old) has its share of issues, you cant beat the location or the staff in its entirety. Ed, who manages the maintenance for the building, always comes ASAP when we need him and has a friendly energy at all times. Hes so easy to get along with and we love him. Kevin, the manager, is also an adorable human being and is unwaveringly professional, polite and calm no matter what this building throws his way. We love Kevin. Not to be forgotten are Shanita and Paulettewho man the concierge desk. These ladies are never not upbeat and never cease to make our days brighter and full of smiles and small talk. Again, we love them. Needless to say, the best part about this apartment complex is the people.
