I've had a great experience living at The Synagogue. The building is beautiful and well maintained. I had an amazing experiece prior to move-in that really sealed the deal on moving to this building. I was relocating to Chicago from another city and Luke was such a tremendous help during my search-- and removed a lot of headaches that come from moving long distances, and choosing a place to live remotely. Luke went above and beyond to help make sure I had all of the information that I needed to make a decision on locking down the unit for me. I am happy here so far, and really appreciate that I can live in building that still has a lot of charm, while having the ability to utilize the great amenities at the newer FLATS buildings in my neighborhood.

I have a serious situation regarding one of the tenets I currently share a lease with being both irresponsible and completely unreasonable. Thankfully when I brought this matter to Geonna, the assistant property manager, she brought me much needed clarification, information and has been quite so helpful throughout this process.

Beautiful building, horrible management I really want to love the Synagogue, but because we are not one of the Flats' main buildings (i.e. the Draper, Lawrence House, etc.) we get minimal maintenance and support from Flats management. Pros: Beautiful old building, with stained glass windows and exposed brick walls, extremely new appliances, the unit itself is the best part of living here. Many residents are extremely friendly and social, if you're looking to meet other people (especially other dog owners) it's a plus. This is the first building I've lived in where internet was included in the rent, and it's honestly been extremely reliable which I've appreciated during work from home. Something not widely known is Flats residents have access to all other Flats buildings, so it's been a nice perk being able to walk over to the Draper or Lawrence House to use their gym, pool, lounge, entertainment rooms, etc. Cons: At any given time, at least 2 of the 3 security points leading to your apartment's door (the outer gate doors, the doors of the building, and the door to your floor) have been broken as long as I've been here and anyone can get in. Residents have been complaining about this for almost a year now. Thieves walk in, casually open up your packages in the lobby, take what they want, then leave. You'd think they'd do something with the security footage from their cameras, but they've done nothing or blamed residents for not "fully closing the doors behind them", but it's reasonable to think if you pay as much as you do to live here, and the door is supposed to shut behind you by itself, that it should do so and it's not your fault. Additionally, some residents with larger dogs let them poop within the gates wherever they want and don't pick up after them, which is worthy of a fine according to our lease, but management does nothing about that either. This isn't exactly a cheap building to live in, so I'd expect way better management than we've received. I'm not the only resident who has complained or notified Flats about something wrong or broken with zero response in return. We will not be returning to live here when our lease is up.

About
The Synagogue - Uptown

The Synagogue is a newly renovated, historic building at Kenmore and Argyle. Situated only blocks away from the lakefront as well as infamous restaurants on the "Asia on Argyle" stretch serving hot pho, spring rolls, dim sum, sweets and baked goods, and more. Built in the 1920s, The Synagogue served as a place of worship, education, and community until its closure in 2008. FLATS carefully preserved many of the architectural details such as arched windows and stained glass while donating many historic artifacts to the greater community.
