Great experience! Everyone is very professional and friendly, and they have all kinds of equipment to test your eyes. The doctor is very knowledgeable and helpful. The staff is also very helpful with choosing your glasses and they have a good selection.

Unethical Business/Billing PracticesMy experience after a visit to Hayden Eyeguys Optical in April 2023, and the resulting billing dispute, still ongoing to this day (March 2024).Â1. I saw Dr. Danielle Johnson for a medical eye exam in April 2023. Dr. Johnson was wonderful and answered all my questions. I was very happy with the exam portion and I think she's a great doctor. Unfortunately, this is the only positive I can report from my experience with Hayden Eyeguys. After my exam, I went to the lobby in casual search of a new pair of glasses. I asked the Eyeguys staff which frames would be the cheapest for me. They showed me a wall of expensive frames while telling me that my insurance wouldn't fully cover any of them. I asked which frames would be cheapest for me overall, but was again shown the wall of expensive frames, with no organization according to price. The prescription for glasses wasn't urgent, so I started to get ready to leave, but the lady said she had more frames that might work for me. At that point, she went behind the receptionist counter and brought out hidden boxes of frames that were cheaper by $100+. I was not happy she had misled me just minutes earlier about the expensive frames on the wall being my only option there. I bought a "cheap" frame that I think was marked $119. Â2. I have decent medical and optical insurance coverage with United Healthcare and EyeMed. Hayden Eyeguys' staff had informed me they were an "in-network provider" with my medical insurance before I scheduled the exam. I paid my portion on the day of the appointment in April 2023. It seemed overpriced as more fees kept getting added...the staff explained that these costs are because all of their glasses are made with premium (?) features...you can't "opt out" of the upgrades like you might be able to at other optical places. My *out-of-pocket expenses* turned out to be $60 for the exam plus $194 for the cheap glasses.ÂTwo months later, Eyeguys sent a bill for an additional $133. I called and asked why I was getting a bill. Hayden Eyeguys' said that I would have to call my insurance UHC to find out why they didn't pay the claim. I called UHC and they told me that Eyeguys was NOT an in-network provider with them, and that's why UHC didn't pay the claim, but instead applied the amount to a separate "out of network" deductible. I called Eyeguys to tell them what my insurance said, and the Eyeguys' staff insisted that they were in-network with my insurance. After much back-and-forth, Eyeguys' staff said they would "look into it". They called me back and told me there was a "glitch" with their being in-network with my insurance (Eyeguys believed they were in-network when they were not). Eyeguys told me I was therefore responsible for the full bill. I thought this was wrong of them after they had assured me they were an in-network provider when I made the appointment. Otherwise I would have gone to an in-network provider for the exam and only had a $40 copay.ÂI asked what the "cash price" would be, since my insurance didn't pay anything on the bill, and Eyeguys said I could not have a cash discount because the service was already billed to insurance, and I would now be responsible for the inflated amount. Eyeguys had also charged me an additional $40 which should have been billed to my optical insurance (EyeMed), for a fully covered optical service. I asked Eyeguys why they didn't bill that $40 to my insurance for the optical portion, and Eyeguys said it was because they didn't want to bill two insurance companies for one visit because it "wasn't how they did things".Â3. Disputing this bill lasted for around five months due to the back and forth phone calls, voicemails, and waiting for the bill to be corrected. All the while, Eyeguys kept sending the disputed bill to my HUSBAND, marked past due and threatening him with collections. My husband was never listed as a guarantor on the paperwork, nor had he ever been to Eyeguys before, so he was not impressed to be getting a bill like this. I brought it to the attention of the billing department, thinking it was improper, and an issue of medical privacy, for them to send my husband a medical bill for me (especially a disputed bill). The billing dept told me this is just how they do things.Â4. I was able to get the bill "resolved" in September 2023, five months after the appointment date. I got through to the billing dept (this is a phone number listed on the statement for "billing questions", different from Hayden Eyeguys office number). I explained my situation to the billing person and she agreed the bill was problematic. *She said she would take care of it and adjusted my balance to $0.* I thought that was the last I would hear of it.5. Two months later, my husband received another "past due" bill threatening collections for the April 2023 visit. I called the Hayden Eyeguys office and informed them I had already resolved the balance with the billing dept two months prior, and that my balance should be showing as $0. Eyeguys said I still had to pay the bill as they weren't aware of any adjustment. After more back and forth phone calls, I was able to speak to the lady in the billing dept who had told me previously that my balance was taken care of. *She informed me that she had indeed adjusted my balance to $0 in the months prior, but that Eyeguys had "decided to pursue the bill anyway".* What on earth ????6. Eyeguys has now sent this very disputed, once "resolved" bill, to COLLECTIONS. In my HUSBAND'S name. I do not recommend doing business with this unprofessional, unethical company. At best, they add random costs to the exams and glasses, while hiding more affordable options even when asked directly. Or, like they also did in my case, they tell you your balance is $0 only to change their minds months later and send your account to collections.
