Grisha did really well there, and the caregivers seemed to really like him. He's going back for a few days next week.

The third and LAST time I will be using PAH's services. While I grieve the loss of my husky dog of 15 years, my experience was less than. Upon arrival, the only words I could mutter to reception was "I need to put my dog to sleep." She asked me the name of my dog. I had explained I did not make a phone call, I had realized, I should have. She explained their drop off schedule was full that day, but they don't normally turn people away. She asked me to take a seat. When she returned, she asked me if my dog had been seen before. I say "no." She asks me what vet do I normally go to. I said the vet. Now, I chose PAH because just a few years ago, I had gone here for a different dog. I felt like the experience was sufficient to have them again. The receptionist had explained that I would need to have my dog's records sent over to ensure his vaccines are up to date. I did not have to jump through these hoops in the past. I felt very confused and frustrated. I don't live in town. So this trip was very last minute and the whole ordeal was stressful enough. I sat in my car trying to to decide my next option. I just wanted help putting my dog to sleep. The receptionist knocks on my window. She THEN asks me if my dog is older. I explained he was 15. She asked me if he had bitten anyone in the last 14 days. No. She then says okay and asks if my dog is with me. She looks at him. She stated they would prepare a room for me. I would need to go inside and give my information. I followed her back inside. She explains that they are short staffed. Irrelevant to me. Now that I am in tears trying to give my information, the lady finally appears to be empathetic towards the situation. I was eventually instructed to drive on a gravel path on the side of the building, where nurses would come out with a stretcher. I had indicated my dog is no longer walking. I assumed this was easiest to get to a room. I drove up and parked. My car was in idle, because I thought it would be quick. A vehicle pulled up behind mine. Appears to be mom and son. A nurse comes out and has me fill out paperwork and payment, so I could be checked out right away. She wanted to make sure she was saying my dog's name right, but kept referring to him as a her. I was too overwhelmed to correct this. I just wasn't sure why he was referred to as a girl when I indicated at the front desk he was a male. The nurse returned with another nurse and they would be placing the IV. So I'm opening my trunk. The vehicle was still behind mine. Watching this entire thing. I assumed this was just to prepare him before they bring him inside. Wrong again. They explained to me that a vet would come outside. My dog was put to sleep in my car. With the trunk wide open. Absolutely no privacy for a very emotional experience. If they didn't want to bring him inside, I would have carried him myself. I just don't understand. The woman parked behind me and offered me a hug. It felt like the only humanity offered to me. She offered to stay with me while I stood there looking at my dog in my trunk. I am thankful for that stranger. I finally saw the stretcher. The one I had assumed would help bring my boy inside a lot earlier. Overall, I hated the experience. I will go back for his remains. But never again.
