AUGUST 17TH 2023: THERE IS A BEAR WANDERING AROUND FOM THE BACKSIDE OF THE TUNNEL UP THROUGH THE CANYON USE EXTREME CAUTION. This is the Rail Trail, not the Yellowstone trail. The railroad ran through this canyon. The tracks were removed long ago and you used to be able to walk through the tunnel, but it collapsed several years ago. It follows the warm river northeast. Low traffic area fairly easy trail. It is 50" restriction. Morning walks are the best. The bear release area is just above this trail. I carry an emergency whistle while hiking this trail. It is very scenic and an all around good walking, biking trail. The 50" restriction has limited motorized vehicles, but you will eat dust for a minute if you do run across atv's.

Huge parking area, clean toilets. Safe to walk around with little traffic--especially now that one entrance is closed for repair, which helps drivers slow down a bit in the parking lot. Wide variety of plants makes exploring interesting, even if you're not that into botany.
