Jeff is a solid guy and we had a fun time and good conversation as we were fishing. We enjoyed the trip caught a couple Wahoos at the end and cooked it up that night. Fish was amazing. If we come back to Kauai I will be contacting Jeff to fish again.

We had a FANTASTIC fishing trip with Captain Jeff Brown. It started slow and we were accepting getting skunked, but it was still a beautiful boat ride out to the fishing grounds from Nawiliwili Harbor. Then came the first hit, a huge mahi mahi (dorado) that snarled all the lines, but it was brought on board safely. and lines were quickly put back in the water. Then another mahi, then a decent sized ono (wahoo), then a 30 lb. mahi. All of it was exciting as hell, especially for six novices. Captain Jeff made sure everyone had a turn reeling in the fish and we were all smiles. Then the big one hit. Something took one of the lines and fortunately, the strongest guy had the rod because it took a while to discover that a huge tuna was hooked. From one side of the boat to the other, several times, it took four of us guys to get the tuna on board! It was a happy trip back to the harbor and Captain Jeff cleaned one of the mahi to split up. We took four huge portions back to the room for some outstanding dinners. Delicious. It was the highlight of our week on Kauai and I highly recommend Captain Jeff and Island Kaui Fishing. We'll be back for sure.

Island fishing Kauai was a good choice for us! Not only is this one of the cheaper charters on the island, but Jeff will deliver. You have to be flexible with ocean conditions before officially booking a date/confirming. We did a mixed group for a 6 hr trip, so you also have to be flexible with dates so Jeff can get other people on the charter (ie: my wife and I went with 4 other people on the boat that we didn't know this was 190$/person vs doing a private charter). We paid Jeff in cash as we got in the boat in the marina. It makes sense to pay ahead because if you don't catch anything you might not want to pay and then Jeff is in a hole. It's the ocean not a barrel so taper expectations and see what you get. You are paying for fuel and Jeff's many years of experience. We had a great experience and immediately hooked a big barracuda that put up quite a fight. After that we followed seabirds to look for bait balls where the fish would be running. About an hour in we ran through a big group of AKU tuna (skipjack). Immediately 3 lines started getting dragged. The fight was on! Jeff immediately headed the boat down sea and slowed down to make reeling easier. He gave constant instruction on how to keep tension on the line and not to stop reeling so the fish can't get momentum to pop the line. He checked on all the lines while people were reeling in and adjusted all the other lines in the water to keep them out of the way. One of the AKU popped off the lure, but 2/3 got onto the boat. After the initial excitement we continued to troll around looking for birds. It took some time before we saw any so we tried to go back to the spot where the fight was but the fish were gone. For the next few hours Jeff hit all of his usual spots, but nothing was biting. We did have 2 people get a little seasick on the boat. Jeff did a great job explaining how to prevent it/make it better while on the boat. Remember dremamine is a PREVENTATIVE and will only mildly help once you start feeling symptoms. Be sure to eat a good non-greasy meal before going out on the boat. Jeff's has a nice 27' boat that had plenty of room to move around and store fish. Even if the ocean is "calm" you will feel the waves so be sure to come prepared. I've been on many deep sea fishing trips and this was one of the best. Jeff did a great job preparing the boat, the lures, the poles, teaching us about the island, types of fish, and the rules for becoming a licensed charter. He even gave some excellent AKU recipes for fish tacos and Poke that we were able to try. I'm glad we were able to make it and would definitely return to island fishing kauai.
