What was meant to be a celebration of a milestone birthday was spent salvaging a disaster of a restaurant experience. It reminded me of the last time I ate at Buffalo Wild Wings. I very rarely post negative comments, but the food was such poor quality, being seated next to a giant television flashing in my face, and our table was right under a blinding flood light. Please try harder there are too many good restaurants on this island to ever come back.

Our party of 5 was seated at our table at 6:40 and we ordered. At 7:30 our appetizers came. At 8:00pm, I asked if someone could check on our food and was told it would be 15 minutes. I asked to speak to the manager at 8:15pm when our food was not there but two other tables who had arrived after us had been served (one was a bigger party than us too). The waitress told me she would get the manager but that they were taking our food off the grill currently. At 8:30, the manager had still not come and neither had our food. It was not super busy either. We left and will not be coming back as we had to get our kid to bed. I am extremely disappointed in this experience as I had always heard such nice things about the Mauna Kea and this was my first time at their hotel. For a restaurant in a 5 star hotel, I would expect better service and communication. I realize that waitresses have no control over the kitchen staff, but the fact that the manager couldnt even be bothered to come and speak with us speaks volumes about how this restaurant is being run.

Excellent place for our last night's dinner in Kona. The ambiance, alone, with it's cozy lighting, unmatched open view of the sunset and the gentle melody of soft live music, is unlike any place I have ever been. The service and food were wonderful, as well.

Average, overpriced resort food. But at least the poor bloke they have perform plays somewhere over the rainbow EVERY NIGHT. brutal.
