We can only review the summer school and following "fun care" service as our daughter has only attended such programs. Her feedback was simple: this is the best summer program that she's been to! And that says a lot because she's tried many in and outside Hawaii. When asked for specifics she said that the teachers (math, English, art, Korean) were super fun and that the kids were nice and friendly. The only challenge was the food as, despite being a Buddhist establishment, menu items do not include vegetarian options (our daughter is vegetarian). As such, she brought her own lunch during summer school as lunch was an optional purchase; however, lunch was included (mandatory add-on) as part of the summer fun program following summer school (the program is 2-3 weeks long). Lunch consisted of hot dogs, pizza and the such.  Zero vegetarian or healthy items which was quite disappointing. The portions were apparently also small particularly as the kids are involved in physical activities throughout the day. Our daughter said to have been hungry due to the small portions. However, she made a special trip to the administration office to thank them for an awesome program and to provide her feedback for suggested improvements (lack of vegetarian food choices, lack of healthier meals, small portions insufficient for the level of physical activity involved) to the staff in person and they were very receptive to her plea. The staff even emailed us the following day to thank our daughter for her feedback.

This is the beginning of our second year at HMS.  The teachers and faculty have went above and beyond to make us feel welcome.  It took our 2 girls a couple of weeks in the beginning to adjust from their other school, but ever since they have loved their teachers and classmates.  The morning and afternoon classes really help working parents.  Both my husband and I work full time so the afternoon classes allow them to find different interests. They have SO many choices from physical activities like karate and dance, to classes like robotics and pottery.  They even have homework help! Each semester by kids can choose new activities.During each break throughout the year they have an option for recessed care. Which helps if you can't get the time off from work. We are very happy to be apart of the HMS ohana.
