The doctor I was assigned was pleasant and caring the entire time I was here. But the front desk staff and nurses in the ER were extremely rude to me, they need to be more empathetic to their patients.

I gave birth a month ago at Kapiolani and the staff who took care of us were wonderful so hopefully leaving them a review here gets them the recognition (they do send a survey link but there's a deadline that I missed - oftentimes I'm not sure what day it is lol #newbornlife). First of all, the nurses @ L&D Jane, Brynn, and the nurse who was switching off with Brynn (sorry didn't catch her name!) were wonderful. I had an epidural so they had to reposition me every 30 min - 1hr or so. It's my first birth and with epidural my labor went on for a long time. They were great about checking on me, and answering my many questions thoroughly. I felt very cared for by them. Unfortunately my son deceled twice (heart rate decreased), with 2 different positions (not to anyone's fault, mostly likely bc he ended up laying on the umbilical cord). Everyone responded quickly, the first time 12 people rushed into the room (my husband counted lol), and got his heart rate back up thankfully. I felt really cared for by the staff there. Fortunately, I was able to have a vaginal birth, which I wanted. The anesthesiologist who gave me the epidural was very speedy and CRNA who re-dosed me was kind and efficient as well. At the MBCU (mom and baby care unit) I just wanted to recognize nurses Rosie, Chantel, and especially lactation consultant Tyna. Being new parents it was a steep learning curve to put what we've learned in theory into practice and they were so kind, helpful, and very patient with my husband and I. Especially the night before we were discharged, my son kept crying all night and seemed hungry. I tried breastfeeding but he just wasn't getting enough colostrum, with possible latch issues and ended up losing 9% by the morning we were d/c'ed. Which is considered higher end of normal but it broke my heart that he seemed so hungry. Rosie was so sweet & great in teaching us how to care for our son, was very thoughtful like checking my son and I's vitals at the same time so we have good periods to rest. Chantel really took the time to help us with our concerns regarding him never seeming full, was very empathetic and helped us with providing feeding supplies, and helped us with the car seat. Tyna was AMAZING, we saw her for lactation the morning we were discharged, and she spent an hour with us, explaining everything from breastfeeding, pumping, to bottlefeeding. She was very empathic with our struggles, and is a big reason I'm writing this review because my husband and I are so grateful for her kindness and patience with our new parent questions. Overall, because of the wonderful staff, I'd choose Kapiolani again if God blesses us with a second child :)
