First off, I have not had direct contact nor have I worked with BJ Hopper or her staff. However, when my wife was a teenager, she was a straight A student that started refusing school due to a trauma that had occurred. BJ Hopper consulted with her parents, recommending to them that they send my wife off to Island View Residential Treatment Center. She was not a criminal, she was not self harming, she was not on drugs. Her mother also attests that these were never given to Ms. Hopper as fact. However, Ms. Hopper chose this institution based on her "therapeutic recommendation," to which she has no accreditation for, nor is she a licensed professional counselor, to which her website's misdirection would lead you to believe. She did not recommend a tutor. Or home school. Or change in school districts. Instead, Ms. Hopper organized for a child transport company to come get my wife in the middle of the night. Through intimidation tactics and threat of physical force, they kidnapped my wife out of her own bedroom, transporting her to Utah, where the facility was located. She was not allowed to pack a bag, call anyone, nor use the restroom alone.
Island View has committed several crimes, and through my wife's experience can only be described as Human Rights Violations. Strip searches, cavity searches, physical abuse, emotional degradation, forced isolation, and extreme fear and paranoia are the tactics that Island View used to break down my wife and all the other students that attended. This is a known fact that is well documented through a simple google search. BJ Hopper, still to this day, stands by her recommendation that Island View (now Elevations) is a legitimate therapeutic facility, even though the facility was shut down due to allegations of abuse. This is both highly disturbing and unethical. To say she has spent 30% of her time visiting schools/institutions, means she must be aware of these atrocities. Upon recently requesting documents for my wife's incarceration for 10 months in this facility, Ms. Hopper has denied both providing the documents and meeting with my wife's mother to review the circumstances that led to her recommendation of Island View.
As a final note, there is a negative review posted for her Atlanta location that has very similar complaints to mine. However, in early 2018, Ms. Hopper had an interview with ABC News, to which she stated, "In 25 years I have never found anybody that said they should not have done this, that it was a mistake." Not only is BJ Hopper unethical, but she is a liar, proven by the fact that she personally responded to this negative review before the interview. The level of trauma that these victims, (who Ms. Hopper calls students), far outweighs any benefit that may occur at these facilities. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY! If you need further evidence of her unwillingness to listen to valid concerns and take a proactive stance to ensure her clients have a meaningful experience with her, look no further than her defensive responses to the negative reviews. I'm sure there will be one posted below mine, soon.
