Very unprofessional management! Stay far, far away! We completed our 12-month lease in its entirety, paying the monthly rent timely every month. The apartment was leased for our son, daughter and a friend of our daughters who attended ABAC. We informed the management that we would not be renewing the lease as the three of them have each gone a different direction since leasing the apartment. After moving everything out of the apartment, the lease requires that the apartment be left clean, including the appliances. We also had repaired the walls where decorations had been hung with spackling, then sanding preparing for paint. We had discussed exit strategy with other tenants throughout the year, none of which were ever described as a fair and pleasant experience, but always as management being extremely unfair with additional charges and requirements. We thought we had done pretty good. The lease ended on April 30, so I stopped by the office and requested a walk through where I could be present on April 24. The maintenance manager met me at the apartment, and we walked through together to inspect. He complimented me on how well the apartment had been cleaned and stated that it appeared as if their cleaning crew had just left. We verbally agreed that all that would need to be charged was a full paint, which I verbally agreed to even though I strongly disagree. The lease says nothing about the apartment having to be painted at the tenant's expense upon expiration of the lease. And I feel that $13,200 in rent had been paid timely over a 12-month period, that painting for the next tenant would be typical maintenance for an apartment owner at their own expense. Well, after receiving the exit statement, not only was I charged a paint fee, but I was also charged a cleaning fee. The explanation from the manager was that the apartment must be cleaned after painting, therefore a cleaning fee must be charged. I believe the cleaning after painting should be included in the paint fee and be the responsibility of the painters. We turned the keys over to a very clean apartment. So, while I was willing to pay the paint fee even though I disagreed, now that the verbal agreement after the walk through is not being honored, we will pursue the entire deposit through a civil action claim in magistrate court, in addition to recovery of lost wages for having to deal with this matter. I'll post another review with an update from the court proceedings once they are concluded.
