If I could leave -5 stars, then I would.
I reached out to Chantay Golson to set up a consultation with her just to see if we clicked and if it resonated with me to choose her as my therapist. Initially, the interaction between us was great and I was truly looking forward to it.
Before setting up the appointment, she informed me that the session will be billed and I had to provide my insurance information. This wasnt my first time in therapy so I was pretty familiar with how deductibles and co-payments work when it came to paying for my sessions.
After completing all the necessary paperwork and submitting my insurance information, my appointment was set for November 17, 2021 at 9:00 a.m. As I waited in the video chat for our session to start, Chantay gives me a voice call. She then proceeds to tell me that due to my insurance, I had to pay a large amount for my benefits to kick in otherwise we would not be able to continue with the consultation.
Let me start by saying that it would have been no problem to pay in the event that I had to. I have aspirations of becoming a mental health holistic therapist myself so I understand how rewarding yet tedious this occupation can be. However, the way that Chantay chose to communicate this information to me was totally unethical. It felt that her main premise was more about receiving a compensation when I havent even chose her as my therapist yet. Its disappointing that she waited until the EXACT moment that our session started to reach out and tell me this information. Had she have told me prior to our scheduled appointment, things would have turned out differently. There wasnt a consideration for me, a client trying to take the steps to heal herself at all.
Book with her if you feel led to, but this is also a heads up.
