I like to be in control. Knowing I would be anything but in control while in labor, I wanted a doula that I could trust to be in control for me and that would be sure my wishes were met in any situation. This being our first child, my husband and I knew we'd need a lot of support during the pregnancy, birth and postpartum. I also knew there was much for us to learn, but wasn't sure where to start - how to sift through the millions of articles to find the science-based sources we could trust to make our decisions. A friend recommended Shari to us and we are forever thankful. We knew instantly that Shari would be the right fit for us. She is very upfront and aggressive, as needed, in communicating. We knew instantly that she'd have no problem taking control when we needed it most and that we could trust her when we were most vulnerable. She sent me relevant information throughout the pregnancy and continues to send along articles during the postpartum phase. The information is timely based on the phase we are in so it doesn't overwhelm us and often answers our questions just as they arise. In addition to providing excellent doula services, she also offers massage therapy including watsu. The watsu session was the most relaxing and enjoyable therapy I've ever received. Her doula services are outstanding. She works with a partner who you meet from the very beginning so you basically get two for one, not that you'd need two with Shari but it is nice to know who will be there for back-up if needed. She knows everyone in the prenatal and labor community - a huge plus when your doula knows people by name whether it be the midwives at Intown Midwifery, nurses at AMC or doctors. She helped us find our labor class and placenta encapsulation specialist - both of which we were completely impressed with. She was also very helpful in counseling us on setting up boundaries with our family and friends. Having a new baby, the first grandchild on my side of the family, brought out many expectations from our families. Shari guided us through effectively communicating our needs while also setting up a safe space for me and our new family unit. Her response time to questions is impeccable - usually within minutes. When my slow induction suddenly took a turn to an emergency cesarean, Shari was at the hospital in less than 20 minutes supporting my husband and ensuring the birth plan was followed. She made certain the placenta was saved, which has helped me tremendously with recovery. She helped my husband get immediate skin to skin contact while I was still in the OR. While I was still coming to in the recovery room she helped the baby latch for his first nursing and a whole host of other details that made all the difference in my birth experience. Since the birth, her postpartum visits are great. She's helped us master swaddling, sleeping and surgery healing. As always, she's just a text or phone call away if we have any questions - again with a reliable response in just minutes.We adore Shari and cannot imagine a birth without her. We have no doubt hiring her was the best money we've spent.
