Living at IP for a year made me realize how much I shouldve chosen somewhere else to live. The women at the front desk are extremely nice and professional; however the property manager was a whole other story. The price was reasonable, but being stuck with random roommates who didnt clean up after themselves, a broken air conditioner that went in repaired for months and an aggressive property manager really werent worth it. Spending more money for a nicer apartment off of exit 10-13 is definitely worth it. Leaving the gate in the morning is ridiculously hectic. The apartment chose to close the pool for the entirety of the 2022 summer; the pool being the main reason I chose to live there. I t amended orders out of Benning with only 9 days to clear and IP wouldnt let me out of my lease, making me spend 1/2 a months rent for only being there the first 3 days. There is construction constantly ongoing and even found a hex bolt in my tire before PT one morning. Do not recommend

Independence Place would be a great place to live, if the rent wasnt as much as other places that are FAR nicer in comparison. Sure, it does have a pool, a mediocre workout area (has a beaverfit area & a small cardio room) and a convenient location to work/collaborate/meet with peers in the club house to meet, but I just cannot recommend IP to other service members looking to move to the Columbus area. Your room is incredibly small (imagine dorm living but with your own bathroom) which may be fine for most people as those attending IBOLC and ABOLC will spend most time away from the apartment as is, but the space felt cramped 24/7. I PERSONALLY did NOT have an issue with physical security during my stay at IP, but before my arrival I had heard horror stories about vehicle break-ins and things of that nature (IP staff were upfront about this). Although this did not occur to me I believe there were at least a couple incidents in my almost 8 months of renting. IP does now have security present overnight, but they dont do ANYTHING. Sure they check IDs when you arrive and leave, but Im not sure what good thats really doing when they do not even observe your identification closely. On two occasions I was able to use another card that was not an ID to get onto the property (failure of security to ensure theyre letting only tenants in). While this is not a direct reflection of IP managements ability to maintain security on the premise, it is a failure to ensure that those they hire to perform security functions on the premises are 1. Qualified 2. Competent and 3. Care about the job they are performing. As well, Im not sure I see the point in checking every single ID at a peak hour (05:30) when everyone leaves for PT in the morning. You will find comfort in knowing that all other tenants are mostly like-minded individuals who will refrain from being a menace (at least in my experience) and you wont be kept up late at night by any crazy noises coming from above/below you during the weekday (again in my experience). The staff at IP is great to interact with and made moving in/out as easy as possible. They are willing to assist you with any needs you have and will work with you to ensure your stay at IP is at least bearable. The only issue I had was with the main property manager who had an incredibly abrasive personality & attitude. I figure mostly from doing this type of work for so long with soldiers? I cant be sure, but definitely was not a joy to communicate with in person. If I could make a recommendation to those moving to Columbus, look at other options. I had a few friends staying in much nicer locations for rent that was pretty much the same as what I was paying. The drive wasnt much further (in many cases the same amount of time) and offered more amenities. One place that a buddy of mine lived in is through a rental property called Greystone. Check them out. Also, consider living on post as the housing there is really not too rough, and affords you a much shorter commute time as well as a solid place to rest and relax while youre not working. Maybe consider buying a house, if you are so inclined. Lastly if you dont care much about what Ive previously talked about then IP will be a great place for you, but if any of this raises some red flags just know that there are many other better options and I would highly recommend pursuing other living arrangements.

A great place to stay for IBOLC! Takes about 15-20 mins total to drive to where IBOLC training occurs counting going through the gate and on base travel. Apartments have nice appliances and the office staff is amazing. They are all really nice and love to help out the tenants. Definitely a great community and environment for IBOLC students. Security around the apartments is very nice and helps protect personal belongings around the building. I highly recommend staying here for IBOLC because it comes with no hassle in terms of dealing with renting and finding other places to live.
