image The Georgia Capitol building was constructed between 1884 and 1889. It is built in the neoclassical structure with a gilded dome and is the perfect expression and symbol for the capitol of the New South as Atlanta considered itself to be after the Reconstruction. The dome is gilded with Gold that was mined in north Georgia.
The grounds around the Capitol have many statues of the leaders of Georgia that played a significant role in the states history. There is also a museum inside the Capitol.

image It was great to meet and talk with Governor Kemp and to be there for the ceremony dedicating the Georgia Military Veterans Hall of Fame on the first floor of the Capitol building, and to participate in the ceremony recognizing the 2023 inductees including my friend, North Georgia College classmate, and fellow Vietnam Veteran, First Lieutenant, Joseph Hillman who I nominated and who gave his life fighting for freedom in Vietnam in July of 1968.

image Lots of artifacts and Georgia history in the building and architecture, as well as various displays throughout. An interesting experience, youre welcome to sit quietly and watch the state legislators at work. Security was quick and efficient, and once youre inside you self guide around the whole building.
