I wouldn't recommend anyone here. My sister hasn't had her hair wash in ages, filthy bed, and now her teeth brown because no oral care. Suppose to weaning off vent, it's not happening. Everytime we are there and friends, she's on the vent and completely drugged upon every visit. I've been charting and taking pictures of all neglect. We don't have any confidence in this place, all they do is lie, and draining your insurance. We want her transfer out there asap.

TLDR: Tour the facility and read all the reviews before making any decisions. Dont trust the 5-star reviews that refer to housekeeping only. Dont let case managers send your loved one there until youre sure this is the right place for them. YOU HAVE OPTIONS! If you need neurological care DO NOT go to this facility. My mother recently spent time as a patient at Select Specialty Hospital Midtown Atlanta, and unfortunately, our experience was deeply disappointing. I give this facility a one-star rating due to several issues encountered during her stay. First and foremost, my mother's condition worsened during her time at this hospital, and it felt like no one took appropriate action. I had to fight for my right to get a second opinion because they dont make it easy for you. The only way I could get it was a virtual appointment with a neurologist who immediately recommended that I get her out of Select. The nursing care was inconsistent, and there were instances of neglect that were concerning. On more than one occasion my mom mentioned how awful the care was during the night shift. Amidst the challenges, there were a few bright spots. Some of the nurses demonstrated care and compassion, and the respiratory therapy team was very professional. I cannot recommend this facility for patients in need of neurological care. The only neurologist with privileges at the hospital, Dr. Fang Feng, provided subpar treatment. Despite my inquiries about alternative options, he dismissed the possibility of additional treatments for my mother's neuromuscular disease. Upon transferring her to Emory St Josephs Hospital, she received the treatments she needed and is now thriving. The facility and equipment are outdated. My mother's room was dimly lit, with a stained curtain, and the temperature control was unreliable. There was even a weekend when the room felt like a sauna, causing discomfort for both patients and staff alike. One of the most alarming occurrences was the administration of an antibiotic that is contraindicated for her neuromuscular disease. This medication exacerbated her condition, causing unnecessary distress and complications. Unfortunately, this was not an isolated incident, as I observed on several occasions other medications being ordered or administered that were also contraindicated for her condition. The lack of transparency and integrity among some of the medical staff was deeply troubling. On 2/9 Dr. Mohammad Al-Mulki claimed to have updated me at the bedside and answered all my questions, despite my absence during the stated time. The news that he shared on that note, that my mom most likely would not be able to wean completely off the ventilator, should have been delivered in person. Such dishonesty erodes trust and undermines the patient-caregiver relationship. Two weeks after leaving Select my mom has been weaned off the ventilator. As a Spanish speaker, my mother faced additional challenges in accessing appropriate care. Despite repeated requests, access to the language line, a vital resource for effective communication, was inconsistent. Even when available, the consulting psychiatrist failed to utilize the language line, conducting assessments solely in English. This oversight led to a failure to recognize and address my mother's depression, further exacerbating her emotional well-being. In summary, while there were compassionate individuals among the staff, the overall experience at Select Specialty Hospital Midtown Atlanta fell far short of expectations. The disregard for her language needs and the misuse of medications highlight issues that must be addressed to ensure the safety and well-being of all patients. The lack of communication between providers is alarming. It is my sincere hope that this feedback prompts meaningful changes and prevents others from enduring similar hardships in the future. I already provided this feedback to the Chief Compliance Officer and an investigation has been initiated. Im supposed to receive an update by March 22.
