Hi David,I'm so sorry you left with a bad impression of our company due to the surprise of not knowing the cost of our chocolate until you finished the check out process at our shop. Sticker shock is never pleasant and I regret that that is your last impression of us. We do have price signs both on our shelves and on our counter that indicate the price of our chocolate bars and other items. I'm not sure how to post photos of those signs through my response to your review. If you would like to email me at: [email protected] I can then reply to your email with photos of our price signage.I know $11 is not the price tag most people would expect to see on a chocolate bar and we try to educate our interested customers on why our chocolate costs what it does. In a nutshell, we pay way above fair trade prices for our raw ingredients, working directly with small scale, family cacao farmers and farmer cooperatives instead of buying the much cheaper and lower quality commodity cacao beans industrially made chocolate uses. We also fold in the costs of running a socially and environmentally responsible company into our pricing. By putting our full time staff on salary with benefits like medical insurance, paid time off and wellness reimbursements and by giving back to our local Atlanta community by donating chocolate and money to local charities and the Atlanta Public Schools, we are funneling financial support into the people we depend on (our employees, our customers and the farmers we work with) and we really, really hope that our customers see the value in supporting a chocolate company that treats people well. We also spend a considerable amount of time and money in taking efforts to measure, reduce and offset our greenhouse gas emissions. We know exactly what our carbon footprint is and we make investments in operational improvements to reduce and then offset that footprint. Those costs are also included in the cost of our chocolate bars.We know that most of our customers care about the values behind our chocolate and view their purchases as a worthwhile gift to people they love or a splurge on themselves. And, circling back to the $11 price tag, we also offer free samples of all of our chocolate bars to potential customers so that hopefully no one walks away having invested $11 into a chocolate bar without already knowing that they love it.We can certainly learn from your experience and think through how to make our pricing more obvious to customers, as we would never want to come across as non-forthcoming about our prices and it's certainly not in our best interest to have unhappy customers.
