image Updating my review after a few more visits. It seems they are much busier 2 years later. Wait times are longer and my husband and I both had miscommunications with staff. This resulted in delays getting our prescriptions filled.
My son needed a new eye exam fast. We had just moved to Athens when he lost one of his last pair of contacts. Athens Family Vison was able to give us an appointment the next day. The office is nice with a comfortable waiting area, although we didnt wait long at all. The entire staff was efficient and friendly and Dr. Beckham is super nice, too! We had the same type experience when we went back for glasses. They even fixed my glasses from my old provider for no charge.

image This all started when my SALT frames (I love this brand) broke. Ive had these frames since 2022 and purchased them at another Athens eye Dr. under another issuance plan. The other eye Dr. doesnt take my current vision insurance, so my family moved to Athens Family Vision (AFV) in 2023. Because AFV doesnt carry the SALT brand and arent able to acquire them, in July 2023, I just had AFV replace my lenses in my old frames. I dont recall a problem with AFV at that time, maybe a longer than expected wait time to see a dr., but everything else went smoothly.
Last week, a pin that holds the eye glass arm hinge to the frame broke. I scheduled an eye dr appointment to get new lenses and frames for April 11th. Because I got my new lenses in July 2023 and its been less than a year, my insurance company flagged my appointment as there could be an issue w/ insurance coverage. AFV called me at 4:50PM on 4/9 to let me know. In my conversation with the AFV, I explained my predicament. After a 3-4 mins of back and forth clearing details up, we settled that: my insurance should cover the frames as I did not used that portion of the insurance in 2023 and that they could cut my current lenses to fit inside a new frame I would pick out that they had. I came in 4/11 to find out: my insurance wont cover anything (specifically important in my case, frames) until July 2024 and they cannot cut anyones current lenses to fit a new frame. AFV also cant fix the current frames.
The two VERY important factors of how I was going to fix my issue of broken glasses just went out the window as AFV either: made two mistakes that are independent of each other (insurance/billing and the Optician are two different departments) or they knowingly lied to get me to come in to spend my $. I assume they made two mistakes and told me what I wanted to hear without verifying that information with the appropriate staff as it was the end of the day. If I felt they knowingly lied, I would give it a 1-star review.
Im upset because I had planned my entire day around this visit. Now Im left scrambling to figure out how Im going to cost effectively see. AFV did not take ownership of telling me the wrong information (mainly because, even though I have the timestamp of the conversation w/ their office calling me, I couldnt remember the name of the staff I talked to on Tuesday) or offer up any possible solutions. I got a Im sorry youre in this situation and a metaphorical shoulder shrug.
