        I had trouble filing a report with the sheriff concerning an incident with my child, and they were able to resolve it and get the ball rolling in less than 24 hours. These people care about the welfare of a child and don't hesitate to jump in and make sure all is well.

      Many are not aware of a recent change in FL law that now presumes 50/50 timesharing is in the best interests of children. It is the public policy of this state that each minor child has frequent and continuing contact with both parents. In fact, there is now a rebuttable presumption that equal timesharing is per se in the best interests of children. Because I represent both men and women, mother's and father's, I am very aware how difficult of an adjustment in both application and concept this new law can be. Your friend is one of many who will have difficulty with this legislative change but the burden is on the parent arguing against equal timesharing to prove by a preponderance of the evidence that equal timesharing is not in a child's best interest. In this particular case, both an expert and the court agreed that equal timesharing is in these children's best interest. Change is always hard and often seems unfair but children deserve a meaningful relationship with both parents. Should you ever find yourself in a family law situation that personally involves you, please feel free to reach out.

When I say #savethechildren I mean it and if it requires me to make sure law enforcement takes child welfare as seriously as they should I will never hesitate to do so.
