Audubon Rookery Parking

Relatively small compared to similar spots in Florida, but that adds to its appeal. It's rarely crowded, given its small size, but the people you meet there are friendly. It's a nice place to get acquainted with fellow bird lovers and nature photographers.

A bird sanctuary in the middle of commerce. Arrive near sunset to both watch the birds fly in and see the beautiful sunset. There were a few herons and egrets roosting when we arrived an hour before sunset. Five minutes before sunset more began flying in. The little island was full by the end of sunset.

The tree on the little island in the pond fills up with storks and cranes and all kinds of stuff to roost for the night. We saw an alligator cruising around the edge of the trees hunting. Then over to the left there were four bats boxes. They come pouring out that some unforeseen moment and just flood the sky to go feed hopefully on mosquitoes mostly. It was so wonderful I think my brother Fred and my sister Nancy for taking us.
