Atmosphere was nice, waitress was nice, my only problem was meal portions and the menu itself. The menu changed and theres not many intriguing options as I thought. the old menu was way better than the new one. The food portions were tiny. Didnt even get me full. It tasted good not great. I wont be coming back until the menu changes. I ate the cacio e Pepe , truffle fries , and chicken kabob. $17 for one kabob is crazy.

the cold with the heater out of order. Worst experience ever. They could have at least seated us by the one heater that was working but they left the table dirty next to the heater for 45 minutes. Then when the food finally came after a long time, the rude host brought it out and dropped it on the table and took off so fast that we couldn't even ask for silverware. We were then left out in the cold, without even being able to eat, waiting for our silverware.

Tiffani, our server, was absolutely amazing. She was so kind and fun and didnt rush us when she could tell we were catching up with an old friend. The food was good, I had the chicken kabob and the chicken was seasoned very well and came out hot. My only complaint is that they dont have unsweet tea, probably the only restaurant Ive been to that doesnt have it. But other than that really great! Parking: We found a couple of spots in the lot but it was very full, I imagine on a weekend its packed. Kid-friendliness: They offer high chairs and were great with a table with a baby next to us

My friend and I visited this little gem a few weeks back. It was my second time at Vela's. I have to say that service is consistently good as well as the food/cocktails. I was not really impressed with my red sangria as I personally enjoy those on a sweeter side, however, Jess K. did mention that if I wanted a sweeter option, I should probably go with their white sangria. My personal preference is red, however. The SHRIMP KABOB as well as GRILLED CHICKEN KABOB with a side of GRILLED PITA, HUMMUS, GREEK SALAD, TZATZIKI, FETA were outstanding. TIRAMISU did not disappoint either and was quite a generous portion in comparison to majority of the restaurants serving it. We liked it so much we ordered 3 desserts to - go. Vela Italian Tavern is located in the middle of the newly developed apartments on Bridge Street and Marina Way off of West Gandy Blvd. Easy to find free parking as there are plenty of parking spots just to the left of the restaurant. This spot is perfect for a quiet dinner as it is intimate and serene. At least it was when we dined there. I will be back and would recommend to try it for sure!
