Very odd experience. I dont feel like I got what my items were worth. Was told they could sell the shoes for $40 a piece and I would receive $20, I gave 3 pairs of shoes plenty of clothes and a toy. Only got $40 back then when I went to get my money they seemed annoyed, they tried to play it off as a joke but I see through that. Very sarcastic not sure if they are African American friendly I was even asked do I want all my change of course I do, why wouldnt I. Also You have no way of knowing what was sold, nothing was returned to me. I wouldnt go back.

My daughters and I love this store!! I have been shopping and consigning with The Monkey Cage for a couple years and it has surpassed my expectations. They do their best to take items that will sell and benefit both of us. I find high end quality items at a great price. Its also a fun place to stop in and get the girls a little toy as a reward or let them buy something with the money theyve earned. The staff is always friendly and goes above and beyond to make sure we feel welcomed. The girls can play and check out the fun toys as I shop. The store does have a lot of inventory which is a blessing and they do a great job managing so much.. I always understand when they do not take things that I think would sell because I trust they know their business and make decisions that will profit everyone. I am thankful for this sweet little shop and recommend anyone with littles to stop by.

The first time I visited The Monkey Cage I was highly impressed. The store was clean and well-organized, the prices were fair and the items were in good shape, but what really set the business apart was their strict quality standards- it is often hard to find secondhand toys and games complete with all of their accessories, but The Monkey Cage's policy of accepting only either complete or almost complete playsets really set them apart. This strict quality control set them apart from ordinary secondhand stores, so the next time I was looking to buy some used toys, I was eager to return. Upon my most recent visit, though, I was sorely disappointed. The store was hectic and overcrowded, with items piled on top of one other and blocking walkways- several items were unreachable without climbing over store inventory, which of course as a customer I didn't want to do. What was really disappointing though was the abandonment of any type of organization or quality control. I bought a pair of playsets for my niece while we were there, both playsets were being sold together and when I purchased them I was instructed to get the accessories from the front desk. When the woman behind the counter handed me the bag of accessories, I asked her if they were the accessories for both playsets or for just one, as the bag looked a bit light for two sets. She was very dismissive with me and said that "she just threw everything together" for both sets and that of course that was the correct bag. When I arrived home, though, I found that I was missing the accessories for an entire playset, though by then the store had already closed for the day. When I called the next morning, the same woman answered the phone and was very snippy and dismissive with me when we tried to explain what had happened. She initially refused to even look for a second accessory bag and insisted again that she had given me everything, but after fifteen minutes either she or one of her coworkers found the bag of missing accessories mixed with some items from a different playset. I had to leave for work by that point so my sister had to make a second trip out to get what was missing, and while she was separating the items into the correct bags, the store clerk snidely told her not to "take what didn't belong to her." The only things she took were things I PAID for, things the store clerk PROMISED were in the bag she gave me initially. The entire interaction was unprofessional and it was insulting to be called a thief after already having to make a second trip out just to correct a mistake the store made after I SPECIFICALLY ASKED the day before. There was no apology given for the wasted time and rudeness, and the woman working there seemed like she was angry that I insisted we get the items I paid for and didn't receive. Overall, though The Monkey Cage may have initially been a good business model, it seems that over time the commitment to quality has diminished- and it is no wonder the staff cannot find anything, everything is so crowded and disorganized that it's difficult just to walk around, let alone maintain a business. I will not be back to The Monkey Cage after this. It is disappointing to see a once-successful business spin out of control by abandoning the very principles that set it apart. Edit: In response to the owner, I would like to say that yes, I was courteous in person. Believe it or not, you can be civil to people whilst also being upset. It is also not the mistake on its own that frustrated me. What's frustrating is that there were multiple opportunities to avoid it. When I initially asked about the bag upon purchase, the person I asked could have taken a second to check the bag instead of waving me off. Better organization within the store would have avoided the mix-up to begin with. The person that answered the phone the next day could have looked for the missing pieces right away instead of spending fifteen minutes arguing. At the very least, the store owner could have refrained from snide comments when my sister returned to collect the pieces.

Wow! I cannot believe what I’m reading here! Yes the store is cluttered right now, and yes you were unintentionally given the wrong bag of accessories to the toy, for which I apologized. We are human! I then allowed to take whatever pieces you wanted from another bag we had even though The playsets you purchased were being sold together because they came in that way and were light on pieces so it was easier to just make a set of all of it. You were told that we did have ALL the pieces . So I’m not sure why days later you are so negative Hopefully you will revisit us and if have an issue please address us in person. You did not indicate any irritation and as a matter of fact accepted our apologies with a “no big deal” attitude.
