NOW Located on US1 and 152nd Street where Block Buster use to be. This is a great place to learn martial arts on Mondays thru Thursdays ($80 for first month) at 7pm till 8pm. You will warm up for about 10 minutes, then one of the instructors will demonstrate what you will be learning, you will practice with a partner of your size, and then you will "Go Live" - that's when you get to use what you learned with your partner(s) and you can use other tools that you have previously used. Going LIVE is a good practice of what a real fight is like and it teaches you where you need improvement. Of coarse you will be are wearing protective gear so you will be safe. After the butterflies leave your stomach it becomes a lot of fun especially after you have learned a few tools to use against an opponent. The warm up in the beginning helps me to get rid of the feeling of butterflies in my stomach too. So, don't be scared to check it out, everyone is friendly, the owners work there and they are really nice. Ozzy is a great instructor and his wife is super nice. The also have a real MMA fighter there who also teachers and Carlos (an ex Marine) who also teachers. There's a mix of all ages from young teens to adults and you will practice with someone your size. I am 31 years old and some of the teens can kick my butt! So don't be fooled when you see these kids, they know a thing or two about MMA. So, come on and sign up. They also have STRENGTH TRAINING ($5 each class-well worth it) of Fridays which is killer, meaning it is tough. Even if you workout a lot and lift weights, I bet two hours of non-stop working out will exhaust you. I run 3-5 miles and I lift weights 3-4 nights a week, but I was no match for the strength training, mind you there's a teen who keeps up in that routine without a problem... it's a wake up call of how much endurance and strength is required to be a MMA fighter. They also have YOGA and other cardio workouts like kick boxing-I think. I see a cardio class that starts after the MMA training at 8pm and it's a mix of girls and guys. Well this is a cool and fun place to learn MMA and to workout with nice/friendly people. I welcome you to come check it out!
