HOSPICE? HELL-SPICE. My Mom was executed at Vitas Hospice. That's putting it politely. She had so much life in her, that she fought her way into the bed. They told us at Mt. Sinai, before taking her, that she was going home after a few days. Bull. They bold-faced lied just to greedily rob her insurance. Welcome to legal elder abuse in the "sun-DON'T-shine" state. Your family can be duped into thinking hospice is best. It isnt. Let me rephrase that - it isnt best- for everyone. If your loved one has less than 24-hours to live, fantastic. Mom lasted 17 1/2-days in this torture chamber. Most people survive for three or four- max. The head nurse was a wicked witch- Maria Alicia. She would not honor my court papers, that were signed by my mom, to give her the dignity of hospice at home. Despite her Alzheimer's diagnosis, my mom was cognizant. Making this place and it's staff all the more chilling. Mom wanted nothing more than to be in her own bed, in her own room, watching her Hallmark movies, holding my hand. Instead she was put on a morphine drip and starved to death. Every other hospice respected my wish to bring her home when things seemed dire. Thats Alzheimers- its good days + bad days. It goes on like this for years. Rather than feed her through a tube, however, they continuously starved her with a morphine drip. Day after day. Hour after hour. Drip. Drip. Death. My graceful, poised mom was turned into a living corpse. Medieval torture in England was more compassionate. If you hate your loved one, take them to this hospice. If you love them, dont. Gut-wrenching is an understatement. Not a single drop of water. No lip balm. Nothing to stop this death dance. Parched. Lips bleeding. Bones protruding from her face and body. Wasting -like an AIDS patient in the 1980's. All of this forced upon her. She entered at 97 lbs. She left weighing 45 lbs. She was 5'6". Dried balls of blood, the size of golf-balls, sat on her tongue, from dehydration, for weeks. She died gasping for air-for 24-hours straight. Frightened. Looking around for help. She kept squeezing my hand. They did not even let me stay the night. Emotionally eviscerating? Worse. They have ties to Scientology. My sister had become a member. My mother was a Catholic woman. This place is a cult. They practice murder. Hospice? Modern day gas chamber. DO NOT EVEN THINK OF SENDING YOUR FAMILY MEMBER HERE.

For anyone who has lost a loved one, it is important to know that in their last moments they received the required professional medical help, but it is no less important for family members to know that they were surrounded by an environment of compassion, ethics and spirituality that made their loss less painful. transition towards peace and eternal rest, in my particular case what I was able to verify was the environment in which my uncle lived his last days, I was surprised to see the hygiene of his room, comfortable and the replacement of his bedding and staff. The entire VITAS program staff on the 7th floor of Hialeah General Hospital was professional and friendly at all times. I thank you for making it possible to go through these difficult times less painfully. A special recognition to Marina the social worker, to Brisey the manager, the chaplain who comforted my uncle when he left, to the nurses, to everyone, thank you very much.
