Hi Ron - We appreciate your feedback about your visit to our showroom last week. Your review provides us with an opportunity to learn about the misconceptions potential clients have about remodeling with a design-to-build firm such as KBF. As a design-to-build remodeling firm, our level of service, professional design, skilled tradespeople, product lines, project management, and comprehensive scope of work are very different from any of the big box DIY retail stores (such as Floor and Decor, Home Depot or Lowes)/independent installer route. And while it's difficult to give estimates without visiting your home, we always want to be honest when asked about potential parameter of costs up front. We understand that hiring a design-to-build firm is not the right fit for every project, home, and situation. But if it is the route you decide to pursue for your home, we would love to have the opportunity to explain how we differ from other remodeling options. We genuinely appreciate all feedback as it helps us improve our communication and better meet the needs of our valued clients. We appreciate that you mentioned that you were pleased with the explanation of our process. First and foremost, we apologize for any disappointment you experienced when our general estimate of cost exceeded your expectations. Our aim is always to provide accurate and transparent pricing reflective of our professional design and space-planning services, high-quality materials, skilled labor, meticulous attention to detail, and the level of client care that we bring to every project. We understand that cost is a significant factor in any renovation endeavor, and we strive to balance competitive pricing with delivering exceptional results that align with your vision. Our team carefully considers factors such as project scope, materials, labor, and any unique requirements to generate estimates that reflect the true cost of achieving your desired outcome. When considering the cost of your project, which includes raising the flooring of the entire sunken living room, redesigning the fireplace wall, remodeling a staircase which includes replacing the treads, risers, newel posts, and railings, removing the wall between the stairway and dining room, removing the faux dining room ceiling, gutting and replacing the entire kitchen and relocating the appliances, replacing all first-floor flooring, and the other exciting ideas for your home that you expressed to us during our visit, we try our best to factor in every aspect of design and construction that it would take to achieve your goals, including trades, products, engineering, mechanical systems, etc. Unfortunately, it seems that our quote for remodeling your master bathroom was misunderstood. The price range we mentioned was for a full master bathroom remodel, as the issues that you are currently experiencing from your previous remodel (you mentioned that it was remodeled three years ago which has resulted in mold, leaks, and cracked tile) cannot be remedied by simply removing and replacing the tile and the tub. The cause of your cracked tile is the faulty installation of the subfloor and wall substrate below the tile. In order to avoid those issues in the future and ensure a positive outcome, we would need to remedy the underlying issues, and the only way to do that is to remove and replace all of the substrate, essentially starting from scratch in your large master bathroom. If you do anything other than that, the issues you currently have will re-appear with any new tile you have installed. The price range that we mentioned was for an entire “down-to-the-studs” master bathroom remodel, replacing everything in it. While we regret any misunderstanding regarding the estimated parameters of cost that were presented, we are committed to presenting realistic numbers to all potential clients, and we believe we are competitive when compared to other full-service design-to-build remodeling firms. We are not willing to compromise on the quality or integrity of a project to offer a low price to sign a client, only to add costs as the project progresses. We wish we had been made aware of your dissatisfaction during the consultation, as we would have liked to have had the opportunity to address your unease while we were there and also present some viable alternatives that may better suit your budget.
