6 months ago I started my first day without a drink. March 15th is kind of a blur. I decided I’d had enough and had my brother make a call. 6 months ago today I woke up in okeechobee not knowing what to expect, where I was or how long I’d be there. A week later I get in a vehicle thinking I’m heading north home. NOPE. Found myself down south and he dropped me off at RSF. I showed up in penguin button down pajamas. True story. I didn’t even pack real clothes. When I heard I was in a 60 day program I flipped my lid. I can’t be away from my daughter for that long! This is NOT what I signed up for. After talking to family friends and RSF staff I decided to stay and work the program. My way wasn’t working clearly and at least someone in this place knows a thing or two about a thing or two. Little did I know what I’d embark on through the process. I’ve met some of the most genuine souls during my glory days at RSF. Those of you that didn’t have the privledge of meeting Lisa, Kalia,Chris or Xenia (aka The Warden)…. I wish you had the chance to learn and gain from them all that I did. Ashley had become one of my favorite humans on the planet and will fight right along your side. Victoria is exceptional as well. I caught Covid during my last week there. Staff and patients alike all came together and made sure I was okay hourly. Sometimes I wonder what I did to deserve such care that came straight from their hearts. Selfless souls. The stories and memories I have will stay with me for a lifetime. Without the tools and guidance from EVERYONE in this program, I wouldn’t be saying this today. Take a breath. Work the program. It’s a small stint in your life that will grant you so much more than you can see right now. It takes a village and that’s what you have there at RSF.

Counselors: Overall I feel as though I had a good experience with the counseling staff. I felt that, by and large, they were genuinely interested in the clients on an individual basis. That is, they didn't necessarily lump us together, nameless. Medical staff: Overall my experience with the medical staff, nurses, doctors, etc was good, while it did, at times, take time to get particular meds for me, I didn't have an overall problem pre-covid. Post Covid is a different story. I feel the management should bring on some more Medical staff to spread the workload. Clinical oversight staff: Overall my experience with the oversight staff, that is the clinical director, was subpar at best. I found Ricardo to be detached and aloof, and seemed to become agitated, defensive, and condescending when put in a position that required him to either explain a situation or address a situation. So basically any situation that required the clinical director Ricardo to interact with clients made all parties involved uncomfortable. Techs: I had a good experience with the techs. They were not overly high strung and stressed, however, the tech staff need support from the higher ups and get more hired. Covid: During my time at RSF all clients were exposed to the Covid 19 virus. All but 2 tested positive for the virus. 3 became visibly ill, 2 quite seriously, one of whom was diagnosed with pneumonia as well. Nearly all clients had some complications post diagnosis. My lungs have been on edge since the diagnosis and, as a person living with asthma, I have found myself much more aware of my lungs and have recently used the rescue inhaler up to 15 times/ day in addition to the steroid I use twice daily. There is a clear difference in my lungs pre and post diagnosis. It became very apparent very quickly that no plan was in place to deal with covid. No transportation to vaccines was offered, the subject was never broached. The community went into a 10 day quarantine, at first complete lockdown then after a couple of days we were left out of our rooms and allowed to gather in the common area. No one seemed to know what was going on, the question was asked on a Thursday about getting groceries to us and we got groceries the next Monday. However, the community banded together and we took care of each other the best we could. Overall, the Covid response was ill planned at best. It was a complete sh*t show. The Community: In my experience it was the best part. If you, reader, have the same type of people in your community that I had, you're a step ahead of the game. The group of heathens I was there with are an amazing bunch of people. I count them all as friends. They are a large part (some days the only part) of the reason I made it through the 60 plus days I was there. Love y'all. I am a strong person but I left RSF in not so good shape both physically and psychologically. After all the above, after discharging on Saturday 5.22, my address changed at the last minute, and rather than addressing the situation, phone calls were ignored and I was dumped by Rehab South Florida in a convenience store parking lot with everything I owned, miles from where I needed to be. Aftercare: Nonexistent. Overall, if one is looking for a rehab, continue your search. There are lots of rehabs out there. Blessings on your journey. I have changed my star rating based on an experience I had at the last treatment center I attended, Recovery By The Sea in Stuart, FL. Avoid RBS at all costs. Go to Rehab South Florida instead.

This was the worst experience of my life. People were constantly using and getting drunk. The staff rarely had time to give me therapy. The groups were not theraputic whatsoever and the housing had bed bugs. When i was discharged they didnt give me any of my meds because they paid for a medication without asking my permission to do so and then demanded i pay them what i owed from that or i had to go without all my medications of which i had paid for. Dont come here you will be worse off then when you came.
