Thank you for replying. I had come from another agency who was wrong as well, and I am very disappointed. I went to a third one and they did do it right. I had the proper documentation, and what I was requesting was totally correct. The HSMV 82040 provides that a vehicle is except from sales taxes as long as it will be used "exclusively for rent". I can have several companies with a sales tax ID and a resale certificate and rent vehicles. It is sad when the response to my review is not recognizing your were incorrect. I will leave it like that. Not very knowledgeable when it comes to transactions that involve a bit more of expertise. Dealers and rental companies should be careful to put their transactions in their hands. They wanted to charge taxes when a vehicle is to be registered as a rental vehicle. On form HSMV 82040 clearly states that a vehicle is tax exempt when used exclusively for rent. When there is a resale certificate with a sales tax ID, any company ( even dealers with Vi Licenses) can opt to register a vehicle and rent it without paying sales taxes provided that they charge the sales taxes to the renter, and then send the tax collected to Florida Department of Revenue ( Not to the IRS) This is to avoid double taxation. They even told me that the taxes are paid to the IRS. Taxes are paid to the Florida Dept of Revenue and the tax rate goes according to the county to which the Sales Tax ID is registered. I am more that happy to revert this review if I am proven wrong by the Florida dept of Revenue.
