Dr. Mindy Jacobs is simply a superb therapist, whether one is looking for an individual, couple or group therapist. Dr. Jacobs listens well, as she creates an atmosphere of safety and trust which allows for the work to develop and deepen.

Extremely poor experience with Dr. Jacobs. Her manner is disengaged, incurious, and unconcerned; her demeanor is sour, cold, and humorless. My partner and I went to her for couples therapy and broke up after 7 sessions. Can't blame that on her, obviously, but (apart from the waste of money) she did she did nothing either to help us repair the relationship or make the breakup less painful. In fact, she exacerbated the pain for both of us by actively urging us to vent our complaints about one another in therapy, continually emphasizing the negative in a way that seemed almost purposefully sadistic. With each session, we felt worse about each other and ourselves. Dr. Jacobs never initiated any discussion of our family backgrounds or past relationships (despite initial promises that this was the basis of her therapeutic approach), never really seemed interested in learning much about us as individuals, never even seemed to give us her full attention except at the moment in each session when my partner took out his credit card. She seemed to have read one mass-market self-help book and to base her therapy on a watered-down version of one or two techniques lifted from it. There was no attempt to build intimacy, nurture the positive elements of our relationship, or encourage me and my partner to be kinder and more loving toward one another.
