The East Norwalk Historical Cemetery on East Avenue was the first cemetery in Norwalk and contains graves of persons buried there from 1655 to 1971. It contains graves of The Honorable Governor Thomas J. Fitch of Colonial fame, the 14th Governor of the Colony of Connecticut and a Norwalk son. His son, Colonel Thomas J. Fitch, Jr., an outstanding military leader known also as Yankee Doodle, was born in Norwalk and is buried in the same cemetery. - Richard A. Booth, 2005
