        Rep says: "We'll only sell you a capacitor if you have an electrical license." Replacing a capacitor on an AC unit is super easy (done it several times), The safety measures (disconnect unit and discharge capacitor) are basic. It's far less risky than replacing an electrical outlet which any DIY homeowner has done a hundred times. Home Depot even sells these things. The policy not to sell these to people is about protectionism of the trade, not safety. It's insulting and ridiculous.

      Mike-We are sorry we could not satisfy your request. We take safety and product performance very seriously. Which is why we want to make sure when we sell any service parts, the installer is trained to understand if there are any underlying issues. We accomplish that by making sure that we only sell service parts to licensed contractors.
