I've been to this museum twice, roughly ten years apart. Both times it was awesome. The building is amazing, looking very medieval with its huge stone walls. It is very old, for this country, built 1639/40 a time when the New England colonies were still using pikes, matchlock muskets, armor and still believed in witchcraft. You get to explore the large house on a self guided tour, looking at various artifacts. The colonial clock and Wheelock musket in the Garret were some of my favorite pieces. I also really liked the write up about the house as you come in. The staff is very friendly (both visits) and informative about the area. I will definitely return one day. The place is also gorgeous with a large green around it.
