While my aunt was in their care for her hospice needs HHC at home and it's staff were wonderful. Answering calls and getting a priest over for her last rites so quickly. My mom and other family members that interacted with the staff including myself could not sing their praises enough, However, following my aunt's death Friday evening I could not reach anyone. I was placed on hold promptly upon calling. The woman picked up the phone "Hartford Healthcare Hospice please hold". I could not get a breath out to stop her from placing me on hold and waited 20 mins parked on the call till I gave up and attempted the social worker who never returned my call. My sister resorted to calling all the branches of HHC at home before someone finally answered. A less than empathetic nurse was sent to come pronounce my aunt. Upon her arrival her main concern was not the family who had just suffered a terrible loss.. it was making sure we gave her any and all meds. I work in healthcare and am very aware of the devastation of the opioid epidemic. My family was left feeling uncared for. Really disappointed with the way it was handled. 4 stars for the last few months of care.. but when we needed you the most things were really lacking.

Social Worker Renee is extremely unprofessional and rude. She has 0 compassion and should find a new career. All the other staff were great and Amy and Sara went above and beyond to help our family!!

Hospice care was very good for my mother in her last days. However, after she passed and the nurse came out to pronounce her, my brother said my moving her to CT from NY to care for her hastened her death. The nurse readily agreed and quoted scientific research! I was left feeling like I had killed my mother. They claim care doesn't end when the person dies. They claim they check in with the family after 3, 6, 9 and 12 months. It's been 4 and a half months, no word from them. I completed a survey for them,gave them very high marks,but I included the part about what the nurse said after my mother died, put my name on the survey and requested to be contacted. That was 10 weeks ago. I've heard nothing. I recommend them for hospice care but don't believe everything they tell you.
