My partner and I stayed for three nights this past March and I must say everything was amazing! We were also there for the blizzard, although I'm not sure local Coloradans would refer to it as a blizzard, but being from Louisiana it was definitely a blizzard to us, and it was the most amazingly tranquil and magical experience getting to see all the snow and ice in an absolutely beautiful place. Tommy and Lisa went above and beyond in all areas and were extremely helpful as we navigated the local terrain, as well as some of the places we had hoped we would experience while there (we went to the hot springs in Idaho Springs and we highly recommend!) We will definitely stay again, and hopefully will come at a warmer time of year, so that we may see some wildlife. We didn't get to see any critters, although I know that they're there in the background. At any rate, if you're on the fence ovrer where to stay-- Get off of the fence because this is absolutely where you want to stay while in Evergreen, Colorado. Thank you so much for everything, we will be back....

Alpen Way Chalet is an adorable little lodge in Evergreen, complete with a fire pit, a creek, and chickens. We stayed in the Jubilee Suite (there were 5 of us) and we could not have asked for better lodging! Our housekeeper, Emily, did a fantastic job getting our room ready for us; plenty of towels, dishes, soap in the soap dispensers, and chocolate candies! The couple who own the lodge were very friendly and clearly were proud of their work. They were also very informative about events and places in Evergreen for us to visit. We visited at the end of March, so there was a lot of snow, some sidewalks and paths had patches still covering them, and there were not many events for us to go to, but it was very peaceful and relaxing, and still 100% worth it! We even got to see elk on two separate occasions while driving, and lots of ducks. We have already started talking to our family members about this place, and we will definitely vacation here again. Nearby activities: Cactus Jack's and the Little Bear Saloon have live music most nights; the lake nearby has trails with a gorgeous view; there are more trails following Bear Creek and going into the mountains; Evergreen, Kittredge and other small towns nearby have plenty of shops and galleries to visit! Walkability: When there is no snow, it seems as though it would be fairly walkable; however, the lodge is located right next to the highway, so be cautious about vehicles. The lodge grounds itself is definitely walkable. Noteworthy details: Watch out for elk, ducks, and any other wildlife that might pop up! Owners warned us about bears sniffing around the garbage, too, to make sure we understood to keep food and trash organized in the bins.

What was advertised as the Daisy Suite is actually a dingy, dark basement with very low ceilings. My five year old son and I had to wear two layers of socks and clothes at night to stay warm for sleep (even after increasing the temperature to 71F). The website states that the windows face the garden, however, the windows are small basement type closer to the ceiling windows, that overlook the top of the trees (no garden view). As soon as I entered the place, I knew I was misled and wanted to go back to Denver where I live and was ready to bear the sunk cost. I stayed because my five year old was excited and I did not want to ruin his presidents day vacation with me. In summary, spent over 500 dollars for two nights entrapped and claustrophobic in someones basement project.

Thank you Rich, we are so happy you both enjoyed your stay with us in our Bountiful cabin. The weather didn't cooperate much, but you were troopers and made the best of it. So glad you enjoyed exploring the surrounding area. Please come back and see us again. Best time of year for wildlife is late summer, early fall. Then it also won't be as cold a trip to the hot tub and you could make use of the fire pit and better use of the cabin's back patio. We look forward to your next visit!

Thank you Marissa, we are so happy your group enjoyed your stay! Thank you for appreciating the effort our housekeeper Emily goes to so that the suite has everything needed, it often goes unnoticed. We are sorry the weather didn't cooperate for you to fully enjoy all of the amenities that our lodge and Evergreen have to offer. We hope you will have the opportunity to visit with us again during fairer weather! We'd love to host you and your family and friends again!

Thank you Sansrita for your review, we are very sorry you didn't enjoy your stay with us. We wish you would have brought your concerns to our attention since you stayed with us 2 nights. Although we could not have moved your room for Saturday as we were fully booked, we could have moved you for the 2nd night. We also would have been happy to provide you with extra blankets and a space heater if needed. You had full control of the heat for your room so we are not sure why you didn't turn the heat up if you were cold. Our weather in the mountains is much colder than in Denver. The Daisy suite is on the ground floor of the main lodge building. The suite was renovated last year and has plenty of lighting. The ceilings are of normal height with the exception of a section over the couch where the heating duct work is. Unfortunately when you book through a 3rd party you are making a decision based on the limited information we are able to provide through that 3rd party. That being said, the pictures on Expedia where you booked are up to date and accurate. When booking a unique property like ours, it is always best to research on the property website or call directly to be able to make an informed decision. This would also have helped avoid the confusion about check-in times and common guest areas that you experienced. The windows in the master bedroom overlook our pond and gardens. Unfortunately when you stay with us in the winter there is not much garden to view. The only tree tops you are viewing are the small pine trees in the garden area. We also mention a garden view because the patio that goes with the suite overlooks the waterfall, gardens and our main lawn area which at this time of year is covered in snow and agreeably not much to look at. We are not sure as to why you would feel claustrophobic in a 634 sq ft suite with a king master bedroom, full living room and full kitchen, but our pricing is very competitive for the area. Again we wish you would have brought any issues with your stay to our attention so that we could have had the opportunity to address them. We are happy your son was able to enjoy the adventure!
