image Made an appointment with Dr Yi after a year long journey to rule out a fairly serious problem. I had high hopes. Dr. Yi has a ton of experience and came highly recommended.
I ended up with nothing but disappointment.
At the appointment, I met with her PA, Nancy. Nancy started off by asking about symptoms. I got 1 or 2 symptoms in and was told condescendingly that it couldnt possibly be the condition I was worried about. She actually LAUGHED when she said this. And then proceeded to explain what they would normally see and look for in regard to that condition. Not surprisingly, what she described were some of the next symptoms on my list. (Of course, after being allowed to only share 2 symptoms, I hadn't gotten to that piece yet.) I explained that there were several more things going on than just the first 2 symptoms. She allowed me to share a couple more before cutting me off again. Nicely, I interjected a few more symptoms during our conversation but it became increasingly clear that she was uninterested in hearing about what was going and more interested in sharing the opinion she already formed prior to the appointment. She offered some ideas on what else to look into, each of which were already in the chart as being ruled out. I assume she was offering suggestions in an attempt to help, but she kept repeating several things over and over and each time I explained it had already been ruled out. But she was insistent and just kept repeating the same ideas. It was just exceptionally rude and dismissive.
Not only that, Dr Yi apparently had no plans of coming in to the appointment I scheduled with HER.
After complaining about this, she made an appearance solely to let me know she concurred with Nancy. I just stopped trying at that point. It was clear I was getting nowhere with this team.
I didn't need you to support your PA, Dr. Yi. Nor was I fighting for that as a diagnosis. All I wanted was to be heard, and listened to with an open mind. I was there for your expertise. Patients nowadays are more informed and the majority of us can differentiate between symptoms that match and symptoms that don't. We'd like to be able to discuss our concerns with doctors and specialists who are open minded enough to look into these concerns with us. We take time off work (sometimes without pay as patients as sick as this require a lot of time off work). We go to extra expense, and we drive a long way to see you. Respect for our experience, time, intelligence, and situations would go far.
Yours and Nancy's condescension and total indifference are, simply put, wholly unappreciated.
Oh and the icing on the cake? That office can't get their billing right. I have a bill for the initial and follow up visits, both of which I paid for at the appointment so now I get to call and waste my time with billing.
All this being said, if they could get their bedside manner in check and actually listen to the patient instead of laughing them off, I do believe in their expertise and would still recommend their office.
