Apex Clean Air AC, Heating Repair & Air Duct Cleaning

First of all I believe the technician did okay on the duct and AC cleaning work. The negative review is based on the HIGH HIDDEN PRICES and my overall experience. I first saw Apex had Groupons available for duct and AC service at $50 each, I bought both and had an impression that I did not need to pay much more for those services on top of the Groupon price. When I made the appointment, the representative on the phone did not tell me the AC tune-up Groupon did not include any actual services, but instead it only serves as a system check. I DO NOT RECOMMEND BUYING TWO GROUPONS, IF ANY, FROM APEX because they had duplicated/minimal functions. On the day of the appointment, the technician, Seth, told me the AC tune-up would cost $600 extra, on top of the tune-up Groupon I paid for. The duct cleaning also costs $500 extra because the duct cleaning Groupon was quite useless as well. I regret not sending him away after his quote and stopping my losses at buying two Groupons at that point. I also told him I was interested in getting a whole home humidifier, he gave me a $1600 quote which was a bit higher than market price (800-1500 is the norm according to my sources). He then tried to hard sell me on a UV light machine (Halo LED by RGF) at $1900. I said I did not want to pay $4000 on the spot and he still told me I could use my credit card, offered me a payment plan, putting half down first, etc. I had a feeling that he was trying to meet his sales quota. When I turned him down on the UV light machine and only committed to the cleaning services, his attitude changed and did not smile again for the rest of the day. When he was doing the duct cleaning, I finally had some solitude from his intense sales pitch. I looked up the Halo LED and I was stunned at its price on Amazon at $515. THEY CHARGED ALMOST QUADRUPLE THE RETAIL PRICE ON THE UV LIGHT DEVICE. At that point I regretted buying any services from Apex because of the outrageous quotes the technician gave. During the AC cleaning, he took the blower fan apart, said it was dirty and malfunctioning, and told me I needed a new one at $1200. I should have turned him down, but I was afraid of his stone-cold attitude (after I turned down his other sales pitches), I was alone with him in the house, and I questioned his professionalism that he would not (further) damage my AC/other things, so I gave in. I felt cheated because he backed me into a corner, quoted me a wild price, and somewhat forced me into paying more. The aggressive sales experience left me an unforgettably bad taste in my mouth. At the end of his service, when he asked me to fill and sign a paper customer survey, he sat right next to me and watched me filling it out, so I felt highly pressured to leave him a good review. He asked me to leave a review on Google, so here I am and leaving an honest review to warn future potential customers.

Ryan called to let us know his ETA when he was 25 minutes from arrival, well within the appointment timeframe. He did a thorough evaluation of our HVAC systems and made suggestions for improvements and preventative maintenance. He then cleaned our ductwork, service vents, air return, and dryer vent. Ryan was very careful of our home and explained what he would be doing before proceeding. Overall, Ryan was very professional and friendly, and I would be happy to have him to work in our home when needed in the future. Service: Cleaning

Dishonest company.
Before leaving Apex manager, Michael Brazile, informed me additional work was needed to fully seal the ductwork and prevent AC from going into the crawl space. He said he could recommend some companies and was going to go call my landlord to share the recommendation and tell him what had been done.
Fast forward a week, my landlord informs me Michael told him the ductwork is fully sealed and no further work is recommended or needed.
I then called Apex to confirm, since Michael gave opposite advice to my landlord and me. Apex refused to confirm whether or not their advice regarding the need for duct work repair had changed. They claimed they werent at liberty to communicate with me because my landlord had sent them an email instructing them to only communicate with him directly, and to not communicate with me.
My landlord said no such email exists and he didnt make such instruction. My landlord informed me that when Michael called upon leaving the house last week, he was EXTREMELY frustrated and declared Apex will only communicate with him going forward due to miscommunications and, therefore, Apexs refusal to communicate with me is self imposed.
The refusal to communicate isnt the real problem, their inconsistent statements and dishonesty is. If they change their recommendations regarding needed work instantaneously, depending on who theyre speaking to, with no explanation for the change and lie about something like this (claiming to have been given instruction they were never given and referring to a fictitious email to defend their self imposed refusal to communicate), one can only wonder what else they lie about.
I wouldnt trust Apex to give an honest evaluation of what work is needed (it could change wildly without rhyme or reason) or guidance regarding the most advisable or cost effective repair or install option etc. I would never hire a company I cant trust.
