    Horrible customer service... previously a neighbor moved in a couple houses down from us and they put their address as mine. Empire didn't catch it for 3 months and then they back charged me for 3 months due to their mistake, so now i have to pay them back for their mistake. I've been set up on automatic bill payment and now they're saying a check I wrote them did not go through which I've never wrote them a check because of automatic bill pay so now I've been stuck on the phone trying to talk to someone to get things sorted... they're horrible people to deal with. I've never missed a payment. To bad they have monopolized the market because I'd love to do business with someone else.

    I called to get "budget" billing where you pay one set fee year round. The lady who helped me was very pleasant and got me all taken care of even with the computer issues she was having. They also provide free of charge to members a room that you can use for birthday parties, wedding receptions or whatever. They are always super accomadating, I have never had a problem with Empire Electric.

    They change the rates without telling you. One day you go and check your bill and you've been charged 3 or 4 times your daily rate. If you call to inquire, they explain that they upped the rate but their system couldn't make the adjustment until the end of the month. So they have to charge you a lump sump off of your deposit, or add it to your bill and give you no explanation as to why. Once they returned my call and frustrated messages, the woman on the other end was super cool. She explained to me that it's an Empire problem and not our problem, but it is our problem. Say I only had 5 dollars left on my account and they do something like this. It becomes my problem when my power gets cut off due to Empire's billing issues. Some sort of an email or physical mail explaining to the consumer the upcoming changes would be the responsible and professional way to handle this.

Samuel, EEA is a not for profit member owned co-op that works hard to provide excellent customer service. When EEA realized the billing error you mention from last year, we acknowledged our error and worked with you on a plan that allowed you to keep your account current while not penalizing the entire membership. Any time EEA does not require a member to pay for power they have used, regardless of the cause, it results in higher rates for all members. With respect to the latest issue on your automatic bill payment, EEA provides an online account service through SmartHub that allows members to conveniently manage their accounts. Member modifications made through SmartHub are out of EEA’s control and rely on the member to accurately transact business. Once again, when EEA was made aware that there was an issue, we worked with you to identify and correct your problem. If you have other concerns you would like addressed, we recommend you call us at 970-565-4444.

James, EEA works hard to have reliable power delivery. If you are having power quality issues please call EEA's Energy Management Advisor Brian at (970) 565-4444. If there is something wrong with your service we want to fix it.

John,We apologize for how the January 2024 rate change impacted Power Advantage (prepaid) members. EEA provided an arrangement for any member that expressed a need for more time to pay because of the increase caused by the true up on February 1. The billing computations true up any changes in the rate on the date the rate is updated to ensure prepaid members do not have a large amount due at the end of the monthly billing cycle when the normal true up happens. Changing the rate earlier than February 1 would have charged other members the new rate before it had become effective. We have been communicating the rate change to members thorough eea.coop, bill messages, and articles in Colorado Country Life magazine. This is the first large increase we have had since we have offered Power Advantage. For future rate changes we plan to communicate specifically to Power Advantage members letting them know of the coming change and how it will impact their daily power charges.
