The mental health practitioners here are incompetent. None of them are doctors, just NPs that do not have extensive experience in psychiatry. I graduated last year and I am still unlearning many of the damaging things said to me by the practitioner I saw at the UCCS Wellness Center. I felt like my mental health journey was greatly stagnated while under the care of a practitioner there.

Nice Recreation facility offering many different things to do. Alumni and community members can access the facility and use some services (outdoor gear, kids birthday parties).

If youve never been to any other commercial gym, this place seems great. If you have, than youll quickly recognize several flaws in this facility. First, they make terrible use of the space. Theres lots of unnecessary and unused equipment. They are lacking a few fairly common pieces of equipment and would greatly benefit from some sort of functional fitness area. The second gripe I have is this: there are so many employees that are there for no reason. It shouldnt bother me as much as it does, but theres something kind of unsettling about the employees that are paid to stand there and watch people work out. I think theyre supposed to be first aid or something, but I havent been to another gym anywhere in the country that does this. My third issue is poor management. They find every reason imaginable to close down. The weekend/summer hours are insane and make the gym almost unusable if you have any sort of job. On top of that, I have made several reports and requests that have not been answered. Things like reporting loose or missing screws on the semi-rubber bumper plates (theyre still missing almost a year later), or requesting a set of heavier kettle bells which was ignored for a year and a half until recently a single 50 lb kettlebell showed up. I will admit, the pool here is very nice. Its well maintained, clean, and kept at a great temperature. Although, their aquatic center suffers from even more restrictive hours than the rest of the facility. The actual space here is awesome and the theres so much potential for it! I just think its being squandered by bad management that doesnt know how to run a gym and takes it for granted because the students are charged a recreation fee thats bundled into tuition.

Hello,We are sorry you had a difficult experience at the Wellness Center. We strive to be advocates for our students and to provide high quality healthcare. We are sorry this was not the experience that you had. In our practice at the Wellness Center, we collaborate with the student to have a mutually agreed upon care plan. If there is any disagreements or concerns, we invite all students to communicate the concerns to us openly. For this reason, we especially appreciate feedback. This concern will be brought up with our provider.Thank you,UCCS Wellness Center

Hi Jake,Thank you for taking the time to provide us with feedback about your experience with us at Campus Recreation. We wanted to take some time to provide you with some additional information, but we wanted to let you know that our team does take feedback into consideration regularly and we implement appropriate changes in real time as we are able to. We are aware that some of our fitness equipment is used more than others. We collect data regularly to use for future equipment purchases. We want to encourage feedback from patrons regarding what equipment they would like to see up on our fitness floor. You can expect to see us requesting additional feedback this semester as we put together supporting documentation of what equipment we need to swap out, update, and add to our fitness floor. We will also be revisiting specific space usage, including the Athletic Training Room to determine current and future needs of our students and members. It is a priority for us to stay up to date with the latest fitness trends. We want to ensure our fitness floor has diverse and accessible equipment that has the necessary features users need to continue to have an excellent workout experience. We are currently working on a cardio and weight equipment replacement plan, and working on confirming the funding we need to update existing equipment. The staff you see up on the fitness floor are our Fitness Center Monitors. These staff members are employed specifically to sanitize equipment, answer general questions about the recreation center, and as, you mentioned, they are there for first aid and emergency action plan situations. While you may not see this type of position at a typical commercial gym, this is a very common position throughout the Campus Recreation industry, as higher education has more of an emphasis on safety and risk management. We are sorry to hear that you don’t feel like the staff and leadership does not support or listen to the feedback of our patrons and members. We want you to know that we are focused on supporting our student body, and we value innovation, communication, and honesty. Any questions, comments or concerns can always be voiced directly to a staff member, but you can also send those to [email protected]. Our professional staff monitors this email address and you can expect a response within 48 business hours. Regarding our hours of operations, we do our best to remain open for students, faculty and staff to access our facilities as much as we can. Our hours of operation are determined by access and usage numbers. We revisit our hours of operations annually, utilizing data we update regularly to inform us of potential needs for changes in our hours. For the most part, we are closed in alignment with university holidays and breaks. Each August we close for a maintenance closure – this has been something we’ve had in place for many years. During this week we complete bigger facility projects, deep clean and provide our student staff (we have 100+ student staff positions in our department) with training to be prepared for the fall semester to start. This closure truly aligns with our goal to ensure a clean and safe environment for all our users. We recognize that our Aquatic Center hours are not as robust as we would like. There are several factors that play into this, including lack of student certified lifeguards, budget, and overall usage of the Aquatic Center being low during specific time of day. While we may not be able to provide you with all the changes you were hoping for, we hope this provides you with some additional context and clarity. Again, we want to thank you for taking the time to provide us with detailed feedback. It has been shared with our entire team, including our student staff. If you have any additional comments, questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to email us directly at [email protected]. Thank you,UCCS Campus Recreation
