This summer, we spent close to $15,000 to have MHST do my backyard and we were originally very pleased with them. This was until I was told that we should keep an eye on our backyard windows and the afternoon sun because the sun will reflect off of the windows and onto the grass and burn it which is not covered by warranty. We were not told this until the grass was already installed and the project manager was getting ready to leave. We had no idea this was even a thing as it was never mentioned or brought up to us before the installation. We even had someone out to our house to give us a quote and so she was aware of what the backyard looked like/what direction it faced/how many windows, etc. So, we thought okay we will keep an eye on it, right? Well within 2 weeks of having the grass installed, we had two burn lines and a couple other spots where the texture was burned/different on the grass. One of the lines was maybe 4' wide and at least 4 ft long. So, I reached out to Libby and told her the situation and she gave me the name of some guy who does window tint. Well we went with who they recommended and had "50 Shades of Tint" come out and put on window tint on all of the windows that face the backyard and that cost us an additional $800 (also he was unprofessional and it took him multiple days to get the tint on the window. I wish we would've gone with someone else but I went with whoever MHST recommended.) Once we had window tint on, I reached out to Libby again and asked about getting the burned spots fixed. This was June 1st, when I reached out to them originally and burned spot was not replaced until August 9th. I had to send multiple emails asking what the update was, when they would be able to fix it, etc. At the beginning of August, I had to send an email expressing my frustrations and that this was absolutely ridiculous and that it was not my job to constantly have to email them asking for an update on what is going on and when this could get fixed. Eventually, they had a scrap piece from another job that would fit the area and they were going to have it put in. However, I was charged an additional $500 for this. Overall, I was disappointed with how this entire situation was handled especially since nobody told us that we would need to get our windows tinted or our grass would get burned. If they knew that this was a common occurrence, it should've been discussed prior to installation so the homeowner is aware of all the costs associated. It should also be recommended to be done BEFORE turf installation. If you are thinking about artificial grass, do some research and see if the sun and the windows could be a potential problem for the turf before you get it.
