Janis was my first art therapy session ever. Truth is I didn't know what to expect.
Her office space was neat, easy to find, welcoming and full of interesting pieces and art materials. Her attitude was calm and joyful.
We started our session with a meditation where she guided me to connect with what was present in me at that moment. From that insight, I proceeded to create a drawing that is now posted on the window right next to my bed. It is one of my favorite drawings, full of detail and wisdom. It was also a pleasure to do, fun, exciting and peaceful at the same time.
During my time drawing, Janis sat in front of me, observing and commenting from time to time. She carefully listened to all my sharing and at the end of the session gave me some open-ended question to contemplate with my drawing.
The whole experience was wonderful and to this day continues to ripple value into my life.
My second art therapy session with Janis was completely different. Instead of making a drawing I selected a handful of meaningful objects from the room and told a story. This session was equally enjoyable and offered more insight into myself.
I would recommend Janis to anyone who is interested in art therapy. Her skills and tact in leading these processes are outstanding.
