I hired Thomas Doerr for a garage/living space renovation. I wanted a netzero build, a design for a future graywater system, more space, and help developing a budget -- he delivered on one of four. He waited until taking my deposit to tell me the netzero couldn't be done, graywater systems are problematic, and never submitted a budget to me despite a half dozen written requests and many more verbal requests. I have in writing when I told him I had $30,000 plus whatever I could add to that,  and he later tells me the new roofline (just part of the project) would be $100,000. For a garage. He indicated he would be able to recommend contractors, yet I called every contractor he recommended and none of them could do the work. He also agreed to working hourly for me rather than at a project cost, but then later insisted that I needed to pay the full project cost and needed the full project management.

I hired Thomas Doerr for a netzero remodel. He took my deposit then said he couldn't do netzero. I requested, in writing, a half a dozen times for a project budget and asked verbally too. I never received a project budget. I am starting to think he just didn't know. He did say I would pay $7k for a window I wanted that I got a local custom quote for $2800 on. I just don't think he knew what stuff would cost. I told him I had $30,000 plus some and the design he came back with had a 100,000 roofline. He wasn't able to recommend contractors who did the type of work I needed. He also agreed to working hourly for me rather than at a project cost, but then later insisted that I needed full project management and kept my deposit.

My passive solar house addition was designed by Doerr Architecture. They are very talented, reasonably priced and quite knowledgeable about green design but most of all they are a pleasure to work with. I highly recommend them.
