image Awful experience with Robertsons concrete. Wish I had gone with a reputable company.
To begin, I had called the day before our concrete pour was to happen asking when I could establish the final number of yards on our order. The rep indicated I could call as late as 8am for my 8:30 pour which I thought was quite unbelievable. That morning, to be safe, I called for 2 additional yards at 7:45 to make sure I didnt come up short. The rep on the phone indicated the truck has already been loaded and it could not be changed. How could this be, I called 15 minutes before the cutoff time??? Not to worry Robertsons calls are recorded so Ill have backing. We can circle back to this one later.
The first truck arrives and we start pouring.... I make my way over to the pump, watching the concrete flow gracefully across the screen and down into the pump. To my surprise the driver pulled a very large rock from the screen and place it into a bucket I had not previously . Not being a concrete expert I knew the rocknoticeds were far larger than the 3/8 pea gravel that I ordered! Inquiring minds must know so I asked the driver for more information as he lowered his head, shaking it in disbelief as he pulled increasingly larger rocks from the screen. The driver explained that the loader back at the plant was new and he must have pulled rock from the wrong pile! Shocking to say the least but none the less it seemed as if the pump screen was doing its job and rejecting the oversized rock. Minutes later the pump ingested one of the oversized rocks and shut down on us. We proceeded to spend almost two hours working on the pump in an attempt to get things going again all while the second truck which came 25 minutes early sat down the street with my load of concrete that was setting up.
Our attempts were unsuccessful and it was determined that one of the oversized rocks had lodged itself deep into the bell housing and could not be removed without major disassembly of the pump and bell housing. With another 15+ yards of material left to pump this left is in quite the pickle.
Both truck drivers had indicated to me that they had already called in with a report of the contaminated load as well as shared pictures with their supervisor. As a result I had expected the management to be well versed in the situation when I called in. No surprise when I was transferred to the egotistical supervisor Robert who claimed to know nothing about it. After many minutes of him lecturing me about how great he is and how I need to be quiet while he speaks over me, he indicated that I simply needed to call back after the work was done to work out the price with him.
Now sitting mid pour without a pump, we were forced to allow Robertsons to drive on our driveway in order to get closer to the worksite so we could wheelbarrow the remaining 15+ yards to its final resting place.
In Robertsons organized fashion they had sent me a new truck to replace the first contaminated truck. To my surprise I was forced to sign for the additional 10 yards of material, at my cost! Thats ok though, Robert told me he would take care of it.
Many laborious hours later, we got the job done. I give Robert a call as promised and to no surprise, he was gone for the day so I left him a message. I called him back on Monday and again that Wednesday. Never got a return call.
I then got a call from Robertsons accounting looking for payment. I explained the situation and was told the elusive Robert would call me. No call
Next we get a pre lien notification! call in Talk to Robert who now decides we are worthy of his time, he shuffles me off to someone else and they completely refuse to acknowledge the situation and stick us with the full bill for their incompetence.
I paid for a pump that I could not use. I paid for extra labor to wheelbarrow our concrete into position. I was forced to pour half Dry concrete which affected the quality of our project. My driveway is cracked, oil stained because I was forced to allow them to back their trucks onto the driveway.
