I have been with bank of America for many years. Yesterday I went there to cash a money order for $156. Was told they would not be able to cash the MONEY ORDER even though I have an account there. Was told I could deposit it but the funds would not be available until Tuesday since this was Saturday. I have read several bad reviews about this bank recently plus the branch nearest me is now closed. Time to change banks!!!

From an online perspective, I would rate BOA much higher, but this is a review for this specific branch. Sadly, they could do much better. When we moved to CA from PA where we dealt with a local bank, we already had an additional checking account (not used much) with BOA and there were several branches near our home, so the decision to make BOA our primary checking account was fairly easy. We very rarely need to go to a branch office, given that most of our financial life is online, easy and automatic with bill pay, auto deposits and such. But given what I have now experienced, we probably would have simply opened a new Chase checking account instead. I've only been in this BOA branch a few times, mostly to get change from a teller, and my observation seems to be the same as many other reviewers. The teller line is always understaffed. And, if you have to do anything non-teller related, be prepared to have to make an appointment. Argh! Having updated our wills, we recently had to change many account titles to trust ownership. Should be easy, right? Yes, for every other financial institution we dealt with I was able to update accounts either online or with a simple phone call to a customer service rep who had me fill out forms, upload the trust document and then use DocuSign for final signatures. But NOT BOA, where we were instructed that we had to come in to a branch to complete this simple task. I asked if I could come alone and just have my husband sign the signature card later, since he was quite busy with work. No, we both needed to be there - double argh! So we set time aside one weekday afternoon with a copy of the trust document at the ready. BOA is owned by Merrill Lynch and there are various Merrill offices for the loan and investment people at the branch. There were only a few employees there (and of course, that one lone teller!) and someone met us at the door to direct us to the right person. She grabbed the trust/investment person who was walking by, and she indicated she couldn't help us without our making a separate appointment because this one simple task would take an HOUR! Keep in mind - Bank of America is the second largest bank in the United States! How could they not have the technology to change the title on our checking account to a trust in such a way that didn't necessitate making an appointment and dragging us in to a branch? Ok whatever, we made an appointment for the following week. Upon arrival, the "financial solutions advisor" introduced herself as a Merrill employee who could help us with this. I suddenly realized that we were forced to come in to a branch and deal with a Merrill employee because their real goal is to sell us Merrill products. The questions/comments from the "financial advisor" throughout the very laborious filling out of a form ("why don't you have a savings account with us, I can help with brokerage, investments, retirement planning, etc"), confirmed all this. Triple argh! Way to make easy things difficult and frustrating, Bank of America! All of this took a little over an hour, including the sales spiel. Honestly, this made me want to close our account and move to Chase. I can't be the only person irritated by this type of customer service. Note to BOA: make things easy and as painless as possible. Simply email me your compelling sales information and I will evaluate and decide on my own...but don't force me to come in and deal with a salesperson for a task that could be completed online.
